Stacey Poole Jr's Days of Reckoning
By Paul Jordan
It started as a rumor that Stacey Poole Jr was contemplating transferring from the University of Kentucky. Now the cat is out of the bag and the rumor has become a fact but it appears that the possible transfer is being encouraged by his father, Stacey Poole Sr. Poole Sr has said as much directly:
“He’s a battler. He’s not thinking about leaving. But it’s spearheaded by his father,” Poole Sr. said when reached by phone Tuesday night. “I’m the guy that’s unhappy for him.”
Poole Sr went on to indicate that transferring did not even seem to be on his son’s mind:
“(He’s) in love with UK basketball, but at the end of the day, you need to be on the floor. You’re not part of UK basketball if you never step on the floor. What he doesn’t see, I may have to see it for him. He may have a little too much blue in his eyes.”
Poole Sr is headed to Lexington to discuss the matter with his son over the weekend, and judging by the father’s words, it appears that a decision has been made:
“I want to look in his eyes and see what’s what. At the end of the day, I’m going to make the call. He’s 20, but he’s still a kid. Four years from now, he can blame his father if it doesn’t work out.”
To be honest, I’d hate for Poole to leave Kentucky, but in the end, it appears to be strictly a family decision. I know that some “fan sites” have comment sections where Poole Jr is being dismissed and trashed and that is just wrong. I hope Poole stays, but in the end, family runs even deeper than big blue blood and sometimes you have to accept that. Regardless the outcome, I wish Poole luck.
In case you have not heard, Kentucky plays Transylvania tonight in their first exhibition game at Rupp. Marquis Teague and Michael Kidd – Gilchrist share their thoughts:
Tonight’s game will have a decided Mayesville connection tonight as Kentucky’s Darius Miller faces off against Transy’s Jordan Gilbert (Mason County) and Chris Owens (St. Patricks).
Recruiting package deals are much hyped and never seem to work out, but in Kentucky where recruiting is king, they are fun to discuss. And so we shall. Seems that three 2013 targets, Julius Randle (#4 in the class), #27 Kasey Hill, and #32 Ishmail Wainright are all considering playing together … at Kentucky. I don’t know how plausible it is, and I would assume that Cal’s top targets in 2013 are another package deal in the form of the Harrison twins, but just the fact that top recruits have Kentucky on their mind is good to hear.
Lookie, lookie who’s bright blue eyes and number 18 jersey has made the cover of Sports Illustrated. As Aaron Rodger’s right hand man, no doubt. Hopefully that is a sign of good things to come for Mr. Randall Cobb. I’m sure it won’t be the last time he is featured.
