WBN Nightcap: Recruiting and villains edition
By Tyler Adkins
Tonight we will go over the biggest news of the day which was that DaJuan Coleman, the 5 star big man from Syracuse, NY is going to announce is decision tomorrow. Now let me preface this by saying I hope that Coleman comes to UK, but we need to keep in mind what it means if he doesn’t.
In essence, not much. Yes he is a huge target and one that Cal really wants, and one that all UK fans should want as he will be a major talent in college. But he is from Syracuse, and not only that, he apparently lives extremely close to the university. Syracuse has been after him pretty much since he was born, and by all accounts he has always liked Syracuse. Syracuse is a major program and it is hard to go to another school when it’s your hometown school and everyone who knows you wants you to go to Syracuse.
UK has done a GREAT job by being one of the two finalists for him, and as I said before he may still pick UK. But basically everyone who is in the recruiting game or from the northeast is saying he is Orange bound. Which sucks. But I just want to remind everyone that this isn’t the end of the world if he doesn’t pick UK. UK is still in contention for bigs such as Willie Cauley, Robert Carter, Anthony Bennett and Amile Jefferson who are all either 4 or 5 stars. So it will still end up being a very good class and UK isn’t exactly struggling with targets.
This is a weird nightcap I know, but it seems like everyone is frantic over the lack of 2012 commits and if history is any indication there will be an internet meltdown if Coleman chooses Syracuse. So this is just a friendly reminder that UK is still in great position with most of the top uncommitted recruits and it will not be the end of the world if he doesn’t pick UK.
If he does, all of this will be a moot point and we will celebrate together. So DaJuan, do the right thing and pick the Cats! Go Big Blue.
Also, the Big Blue Legends lost to the Villains tonight. It was a highly defensive affair, just kidding, there was no defense. There was around 10,000 at the game who saw a 152-149 win for the villains in overtime. Jodie Meeks went all Tennessee game on the villains and had 40 points but it wasn’t enough. Corey Brewer went for 32 for the villains and Christian Laettner got tossed in the 4th quarter, which we all know should have happened in 92 when he stomped on Timberlake but I digress.
It seems like the event was a fun event and it was the first time Enes was able to play in Rupp. Enes has 14 points and 10 rebounds in the game which probably made everyone in attendance cringe. Still hate you NCAA. Knight and Rondo had 21 and 20 respectively.
