Tonight marks the highlight of the Big Blue All Stars tour as they face off against a team of dreaded “villains” at Rupp Arena. The game is interesting as it will mark the Rupp Arena debut of Enes Kanter and will showcase a total of 21 players that have played/or will play in the NBA. The BBAS squad features 12 NBA players while the Villains has 9. The players on the Villains squad have a 16-4 record against UK and are led by Tyler Hansborough (4-0) and Corey Brewer (6-1). 2012 recruit Alex Poythress visited Memphis over the weekend and from all indications, Memphis coach Josh Pastner is still heavily involved in his recruitment. Pastner was one of the coaches that showed up in Clarksville at 5:30 this morning to watch Poythress work out. Long believed to be a UK lean, Poythress says that he has “no clue yet” whether he will sign in the early November period or wait until spring.
At one time, there was rumors that five star big man Robert Carter would be Kentucky’s first commit in 2012, but that never materialized. Now there are rumors that he is headed to Georgia Tech as part of a “package deal” which he is refuting, although he seems to like Georgia Tech a good bit. Carter has already visited Georgia Tech and Georgia and has trips planned to Florida and Florida State the next two weeks. Kentucky is still in the running, although Carter will decide between Kentucky and Maryland as to what team will make up his fifth official visit.
Joker Phillips talked to Larry Vaught recently and he took the time to shoot down the rumors that freshman RB Josh Clemons is unhappy at Kentucky and looking to transfer:
“When you are struggling team people are going to start rumors. As a football team, we have talked to our kids about being together. We are sticking together. There are no indications of those things. We talked to Josh after hearing things. We got people reading the Internet messages and listening to call-in shows. People talk about what they want to. But we have to stay together. It was just some unknown rumor started by someone.”
It appears that Kentucky got no love from Vegas for their game this week against Mississippi State as the early line seems to have the Bulldogs about a 10 point favorite. To be honest, that seems a little high as I think Kentucky has a legitimate shot at a win this weekend. Mississippi State played both LSU and South Carolina tough, but the Bulldogs are 3-4, are yet to win a SEC game, and barely beat Louisiana Tech 26-20 in overtime.
