WBN College Games of the Week: Occupy Commonwealth Stadium

facebooktwitterreddit

I am sure many of you are familiar with the Occupy Wall Street Protests going on around the country. Whether you agree with them or not, they are there, they are loud and they are getting noticed.

I am starting my own Occupy Commonwealth Stadium movement to try and get people in the stands for Saturday’s game against Jacksonville State. Some local media members are claiming that Keeneland race track will draw large numbers away from the football game and that the numbers in the end will be even.

Let’s prove them wrong. Go to the game if you can, cheer, scream, root for your team and show your fandom. If you have the option to go to Keeneland over going to Commonwealth, choose the Wildcats. Support your team and support your coach. They need you now more than ever.

Jacksonville State (5-1) at Kentucky (2-4): Saturday October 22, 12:00 PM

The Cats are coming off of a bye week to face their last non-conference opponent in the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. JSU is an FCS school that has defeated an SEC school in their house last season when they went to Ole Miss and beat them.

The Gamecocks also have junior running back Washaun Ealey. Sound familiar? If it does then you will recall that he ran for five touchdowns against the Cats when he played for the Georgia Bulldogs.

There is a lot on the line. Kentucky needs to prove something. Their offense cannot be stagnant against an FCS team. Morgan Newton has to play better. Raymond Sanders needs to show that he is healed and ready to reclaim the starting job that was once taken by a freshman. The defensive backs need to lock down receivers.

Jacksonville State believes they can win. They know they can win. Is Kentucky on upset alert? With an offense that has been as bad as it has been, absolutely.

Time for Joker to quite his critics a little bit. If this game is won handily, then the rest of the season doesn’t seem as daunting.

Rutgers (5-1) at Louisville (2-4): Friday October 21, 7:00 PM

The Cards have the 111th ranked offense in the country, only 7 spots behind the Wildcats and they have played far less talented teams. Their defense is respectable, letting teams score only 17 points a game. But when your offense averages only 16, then you have some trouble.

The freshmen on Louisville have not been lights out great like the fans told everybody they would be. Charlie Strong just got a contract extension for having a losing record and his offensive coordinator was fired after an alleged brawl with the head coach. Louisville is not who they thought they were.

Rutgers is OK but they aren’t great. Their biggest win was over a pillow soft Pitt team, 34-10. Their one loss came from North Carolina by only two points, a team that just beat Louisville two weeks ago by seven points. Rutgers’ defense is only allowing 16 points a game while averaging 30 points a game.

Rutgers won’t be intimidated by the Pizza Oven. They are trying to give tickets away in a coupon deal: four tickets for $20. It’s pretty sad when you have to lower your tickets to high school football prices in order to get people away from high school football games to see the college team.

SEC Game of the Week: #20 Auburn (5-2) at #1 LSU (7-0): Saturday October 22, 3:30 PM

LSU might be on upset alert. Three of their players will be suspended when the other Tigers come to Baton Rouge Saturday afternoon. Defensive stud Tyrann Mathieu will not be playing. Neither will running back Spencer Ware or defensive back Tharold Simon.

Mathieu is the backbone of the LSU defense. He has 42 tackles, two interceptions and four forced fumbles, two of them he returned for touchdowns. He is an NFL talent, a type of guy that could go top ten in the draft.

Spencer Ware leads the team in yards (512) and touchdowns (6). Simon is fourth on the team with tackles and is also a big loss. Ware and Matheiu apparently failed drug tests and could be suspended for multiple games. These losses could spell a win for Auburn.

But Auburn is starting Clint Mosely for the first time over Barrett Trotter. Mosely is 6-9 on the year for 120 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. If I were Auburn, I might be rethinking starting the more experienced Trotter to throw against a depleted LSU backfield.

LSU 17-Auburn 14. LSU gets three for home field advantage.

Non-SEC Game of the Week: #6 Wisconsin (6-0) at #16 Michigan State (5-1): Saturday October 22, 8:00 PM

This is the first road game for the Badgers this year. They have coasted at home, as the usually do at Camp Randall, and lead the nation in scoring with 50 points a game. They have not been tested yet, not even by Nebraska.

The Spartans are coming off of a big win over Michigan in which they completely dominated. They have not looked back since they lost handily to a very talented Notre Dame team. MSU is only allowing 10 points a game, 4th in the FBS.

It’s defense vs. offense in this Big 10 battle.

NFL Game of the Week: Broncos (1-4) at Dolphins (0-5): Sunday October 23, 1:00 PM

I am calling this game “The Paul Jordan Bowl”. Our websites founder and editor is a die hard Dolphins fan and a rabid Gator Hater. What better way to honor him than by previewing Tim Tebow’s triumphant return to Florida in a game where he will be honored at half time with the rest of Florida’s 2009 national championship team?

The fans in Denver have been heard and their man Tebow is finally debuting as a starter. To hell with Merle Hodge and his Timmy hating! To hell with all of those who say his mechanics are awful! Tebow is a winner and an inspiration to his team. His presence alone is worth 10 points at least.

Miami is struggling to find an offensive game since Chad Henne went down for the season with a shoulder injury. Matt Moore has been average as has their running game, but they give up a lot of points.

Broncos 24-Dolphins 3

Hooray for Tim Tebow!!!!
