Alex Poythress could become the second member of the Kentucky Wildcat's 2012 recruiting class next month

Alex Poythress was one of the recruits that attended Kentucky’s Big Blue Madness last weekend and the payoff could be soon as he may make his college decision and sign next month.  From all indications, Poythress enjoyed his visit to Lexington and came away impressed by the passion of the fans:

“Everything was a pretty good.  I had heard and thought (the fans) were crazy but I was still surprised at how crazy they were. They are very passionate. It was a lot of fun for me to see.”

Poythress will be making a visit to Memphis this weekend and has already made trips to Florida, Vandy, and Kentucky.  The plan was originally for Poythress to make his decision after his visits and sign in November but he is not sure if that will happen now:

“I just look and see if I can see myself playing at that certain school. I really have to have a comfort level at the school (where he’ll sign).”

“I wouldn’t know as of right now.  I will think more in my head when the visits are over and then sit down with family and my coach and talk it over.”

Gary Parrish of CBS Sports takes a look at the Calipari/Pitino rivalry and deems it the best in college basketball.  Duh.  But you have to wonder if this war of words between the two coaches can get much worse.  Parrish comments on what he would like to see:

I personally won’t be satisfied until Calipari brings up Karen Sypher and Pitino spends 20 minutes talking about how much he’d hate it if one of his five Final Fours were ever vacated, much less two. Up to me, that’s where we’re headed.

2013’s Chris Walker has long been considered a Kentucky lean, but he did not attend BBM and instead went to Kansas’s version of the event.  And now, Walker counts Kansas as one of his co-leaders along with Kentucky and Florida.  I would not worry too much about Walker, however.  2013 is still a long ways off and once Kentucky officially offers Walker, I expect it to be an easy decision for him.

Kentucky’s defensive end Jake Lewellen received a surprise at practice yesterday.  The Louisville native was one of only 11 Bowl Subdivision players to be named to the 2011 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Lewellen was honored for his “dedication and commitment to serving his community.” He mentors freshman football players, reads to elementary school children and leads an on-campus Bible study program. He also made mission trips during his spring break, made numerous visits to a 3-year-old cancer patient at Lexington’s Hope Lodge and served in a leadership role in Athletes in Action.

The Missouri Tigers will soon become the 14th member of the SEC.  So says Pete Thamel.  He says the move is “inevitable and imminent”.  We’ll talk more about it if it actually happens.
