Joker Phillips will "absolutely" be head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats next year
By Paul Jordan
University of Kentucky AD Mitch Barnhart cooled the hot seat surrounding Joker Phillips in an interview with the Courier Journal. Here is what Barnhart had to say:
“He’s my football coach, and I intend to ride this thing for the long haul with him and make this thing work, This is my 10th year (at UK). If they know one thing about me, I’m stubborn. I’m going to fight through stuff. My great frustration in the world we live in today is it’s a microwave society. We have determined that everything must happen instantly. And if it doesn’t, we’re on to the next thing. People can say what they want, and they’re entitled to their opinion. But having said that, I believe in what Joker’s doing, how hard he’s working at it and the people he’s trying to bring into this program.”
Simply put, you can Skype with Mike Leach down in Key West all you want, but it’s not going to do any good. Wonder how awkward it will be for some media outlets to try to talk to Joker now after making gaga eyes over his supposed replacement. Personally, Joker should go all “Spurrier” and start kicking out all the backstabbing media types that went crazy over Leach.
Now that the job is yours, RISE Joker. I don’t this drama surrounding the team next year.
Hopefully all your camping paid off and you got tickets to BBM. If not, here is where to catch the action. (click to enlarge — that’s what she said.)
Those outside the Bluegrass can stream it live on ukathletics.com or ESPN 3, which is available on your X-Box, so you can still put it on the big screen.
Aside from this, there really honestly is not a lot more news, but what do you really need? One more year of Joker and BBM tonight. That pretty much sums it up. If you need more, here is John Calipari’s comments from Media Day yesterday. Enjoy your BBM.
