WBN Games of the Week: Bye Week

facebooktwitterreddit

I usually get a little depressed during the UK football bye week because of the fact that I am disappointed that I do not get to watch my Wildcats play. I welcome it this year.

This team has a lot to fix. We have talked about it and talked about it, so I don’t need to fill you in on any more details. We all know how bad it is. Let’s let Bye Week go on and hope the Cats fix whatever is broken.

Cats beat Bye Week by a field goal.

I still had to make a pick.

Louisville (2-3) at Cincinnati (4-1) (in Paul Brown Stadium): Saturday October 15th, 12:00 PM

The Cards, as atrocious as they are, have some hope; they start Big East play. Their conference is terrible beyond belief and the Cards could make a bowl game despite glaring problems in almost every position.

The Cards come off of back to back losses against Marshall and North Carolina. Add to that the strange situation they have with coach/non-coach Mike Sanford, a QB controversy, and the fact that they have one of the most penalized teams in the country, then you get what I think will be a loss.

The Bearcats are not in their home stadium but are in the home of the Bengals. Whoever thought that placing the Cincy vs. Louisville game in a stadium that big needs to have their head examined.

Cincy has put together a nice little early season. They are 9th in the season in points scored and have won three straight games. QB Zach Collaros is the real deal. He has thrown for over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns. He gave Louisville fits last year in a blow out victory at Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium. The Cards have a terrible DB core and should have been burned a lot more by the Tar Heels if it wasn’t for dropped passes (hmmmm…. who does that sound like).

And don’t let the Cards fans fool you. They are ranked 112th in the country in points for, with 16 a game. Not too far behind the Wildcats.

The Cards get beat down in their first Big East contest.

SEC Game of the Week: Florida (4-2) at #24 Auburn (4-2): October 15th, 7:00 PM

It’s time for one of these teams to step up. It’s almost do or die. Neither one of these teams have shown much against the elite of the SEC and Auburn has yet to play LSU or Alabama. The Gators were blown out by both.

Florida is still struggling to find an offense without John Brantley. Their running game has suffered because of it. Florida will probably go with two quarterbacks; Jacoby Brissett and Tyler Burton to try and find something to spark the passing game.

The Tigers are not fairing much better in this capacity. Junior Barrett Trotter has failed to pick up where Cam Newton left off, not that anybody expected him to, but in all honesty they thought he would be better than he has been. Auburn used four quarterbacks against the Razorbacks last week and all failed to produce.

The upside to the Tiger offense is Michael Dyer. The talented sophomore has already amassed 679 yards and 8 touchdowns. I think he will be the difference as the Gators stay out of the Top 25 and the Tigers cling to it for dear life.

Non-SEC Game of the Week: #11 Michigan (6-0) at #23 Michigan State: Saturday October 15th, 12:00 PM

The battle of the Upper Peninsula takes place in Sparty’s house. The Wolverines have been impressive with Denard Robinson behind center. He isn’t much of a passer, but he is deadly with his legs and has helped Michigan claim the 7th ranked rushing attack. The defense is only allowing 12.5 points a game.

MSU’s only loss was against the Fighting Irish and it wasn’t even close at 31-13. But they bounced back to win two in a row including one against the Ohio State Buckeyes. They also have an extremely tough defense only allowing 10 points a game.

The Wolverines have been living a charmed life up to this point and I do believe that their 6-0 streak is about to come to a crashing halt on the road. The Spartans will have a scheme to stop Robinson’s running and force him to pass.

Clunker of the Week: CSU (0-5) at VMI (0-5):Saturday October 15h, 1:30 PM

Big South Football: SEC’s little brother. Not really.

I honestly don’t know anything about these teams except they are both 0-5 and have lost to teams such as Norfolk State, Wesley College, Delaware State and Coastal Carolina.

Somebody has to win. Might as well be the military.

VMI 2-SCU 0

NFL Game of the Week: San Francisco (4-1) at Detroit (5-0): October 16th, 1:00 PM

Did anybody think the 49ers and the Lions would be playing a game of such importance at this point in the season? Put your hand down you liar.

The Lions have the best receiver in the game (best player in the game) in Calvin Johnson and a guy that can launch the ball to him in Matthew Stafford. Don’t forget that Suh guy on the D-Line that scares the crap out of every offensive lineman in the Pros.

Jim Harbaugh left Stanford to take on the challenge of rebuilding a down but once very proud franchise. He has made previous bust Alex Smith into a quarterback and has taken a defense led by Patrick Willis to the next level.

Both of these teams are legit and I am rooting for the both of them to succeed. Too bad one has to lost. Don’t worry Niners, the NFC West is awful and you all will roll through. Don’t sweat this loss too much, the Lions are very good.

Lions 25-49ers 21

Enjoy Bye Week. Let’s hope the Cats have a full mental and physical recovery. Gotta get ready for Jacksonville State.

In the meantime, something called Big Blue Madness should tide us all over.
