UK Pros vs. UK's REAL villains
By Paul Jordan
A couple of weeks ago I was lying in my bed at my apartment and it was one of those nights that a college student has often, which is still being up when the news come on the next morning. I was watching WKYT and having some McDonalds breakfast, because that’s literally the only time I ever get McDonalds breakfast…I sure some of you feel me. Regardless of those details I witnessed something that got me so excited I could barely fall to sleep..UK pros…Vs…..UK villains. Wow.
Yesterday it was announced that Christian Laettner would be coaching the roster of villains which has been teased as names like Kemba Walker, Joakim Noah and a couple of other players that really never played against Kentucky but played for different schools that Kentucky fans seem to hate, but I’m not happy with this…I mean…I am and don’t get me wrong, I want to watch it, but how about we bring in some REAL villains…The guys who stabbed UK right in the heart. I’ve got some names right here that UK should consider bringing in.
Devan Downey: How many times has this 5’9” guard torched UK over the years? I mean, Downey is the reason that UK has so much trouble against UK because it doesn’t matter who you put on him, somehow he goes nuts when the big blue comes to town. I can think of at least two instances and in one I walked out of Rupp Arena so mad I couldn’t see straight when Downey scored on Jodie Meeks to take the lead with under a couple of seconds left to lead South Carolina to victory in Rupp Arena. Then, the John Wall team, Calipari’s first year the guard torched anyone who came near him, including one where he caught the inbounds pass, got fouled and threw the ball up into the air and it somehow goes in. I remember the whole campus talking about Downey the next day…Downey is a villain, get him back in Rupp Arena.
Chris Lofton: This one may cause a little bit of a stir, but let’s face it. Lofton was one of the most aggravating players to watch against Kentucky because you just knew he had a vendetta against the Cats for not wanting him to come play for them. This is another story for another time, but it never failed that somehow Chris Lofton would make the highlights against Kentucky and keep UT in the game no matter what, whenever a local guy puts that UT orange on…He has a target on his back. Lofton was one of those guys you loved to hate.
Carldell “Squeaky” Johnson: I will never forget this name for as long as I live. One of the reasons is because this was probably my third favorite Kentucky team of all time and when UAB won, I was younger and I sat on my couch in my living room and was so mad I was in tears over this game, and the play where he throws the ball over his head to his brother who is streaking to the other end of a lay-up…Is an image i will never forget for as long as I live…
Dwayne Wade: Do I need to say anyone? Do I? Because the ’03 Kentucky team is literally my favorite Kentucky team of all time. I loved the way they locked up on the defensive end and garnered the name the “Suffo-Cats” and I loved every player, and then here came Dwayne Wade and knocked my favored Cats out of the tournament and to this day…I still hate Dwayne Wade and he is still my number one villain. I don’t dislike the Heat because of the big three or because of Lebron James…I hate the Heat because of this man…
So there you have it, I limited this list so if anyone wants to add on, go ahead. But these are at least my top guys I want to see in Rupp somehow.
