Mitch McGary cancels visit to Kentucky's BBM, will decide on school soon
By Paul Jordan
Five star recruit Mitch McGary has cancelled all of his remaining official visits, including his appearance at the Kentucky Wildcats Big Blue Madness and he will make his college decision within the next month or so. McGary had taken visits to Duke, North Carolina, and Michigan and apparently these schools are the front runners for his services. McGary posted this announcement on his ESPN blog last night:
As far as more visits, I don’t think I’ll be making any. I’m not gonna go to Kentucky’s Midnight Madness, I feel like I have all the information that I need to start to think about a decision. Within the next month I hope to have a decision made.
This decision will be really hard to say the least. I’m gonna let you guys in on a few things I’ll be thinking about throughout the process.
McGary went on to list a few things he liked about North Carolina, Duke, Michigan, and Maryland. So it appears that Kentucky has been shut out from TJ Warren’s team mate. To be honest, I never felt Kentucky was a leader for McGary so this is not a huge shock. Keep in mind that the 2012 class is heavy in power forwards and while McGary is rated as the top one, it is a very crowded and competitive field and Kentucky is in good with several top targets.
As Jason reported last night, Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant is headed to Lexington. Turns out, the entire Thunder team is headed to Lexington. Apparently, Nazr Mohammed put this together and the Thunder will be holding voluntary workouts in Lexington all week to stay fresh for the upcoming NBA season, if it ever comes. The NBA preseason usually starts around the first part of October and well, since no NBA right now, that does not stop the players from convening in Lexington. No doubt the remaining 2012 recruits will make the connection that “Kentucky = NBA”
This past weekend was the UK Women’s Clinic and from all accounts, there was a record attendance and the folks from Guinness were there to document it. The big news however, was that John Calipari laid out his goals for the upcoming season. Calipari told the women he had four goals for the upcoming season:
- Win a national Title
- Have the highest GPA in the SEC
- Have the highest APR in the SEC
- Have Five Players drafted in the First Round of the NBA Draft
One of those player would be Anthony Davis. Calipari spoke recently about the team and one of the things he said about Anthony Davis was that he is like Marcus Camby, but only better. Calipari actually gave a run down of all the incoming freshmen and his message seems to be “BELIEVE THE HYPE” .
Finally, the fifth item has nothing whatsoever to do with Kentucky or Kentucky athletics, but it something that I am personally very, very excited about and this news made my week. According to Jason Bateman’s Twitter, there will be ten more episodes of “Arrested Development” and a AD movie to be released, starting in early 2013.
If you are not a AD fan, and I realize most of you are not, do yourself a favor. Go to Netflix and rent the three seasons. It’s absolutely one of the best live action comedies ever filmed and gives Seinfeld a real run for it’s money. Fox never knew what to do with the show, so it was shuffled around several bad time slots and finally cancelled after three seasons. Now, it has been resurrected for a rightful sendoff.
