WBN Games of the Week: Bounce Back

Yes, I know this is a football post and there is a picture of John Calipari. Read on and it will all make sense.

15 Florida (3-0) at Kentucky (2-1): November 24, 7:00 P.M.

The loss to Louisville was devastating on multiple levels but we need to move on. And what better way to do it that against Florida, right!? The Gators are coming to town this Saturday to visit the Cats in a game that will be televised on ESPN. UK desperately needs to find some mojo on the offense and there is no better time than the present because the road does not get any easier in the next two weeks.

Florida is still Florida, there are going to be athletes all over the field on both sides of the ball. Kentucky does not match up well against talented guys like John Brantley and Chris Rainey. Rainey is Mr. Everything for Florida. He is the leading receiver AND the leading rusher. The guy is going to get his, make no mistake about it, and Florida will put up points.

The Cats need to do the same. The offense has been, for a lack of a better word, unimaginative. I could call the same plays that Joker and Sanders are calling and I’m nowhere near a college football coach. What they need to do is attack, attack, attack. What’s there to lose? They need to take their best shot, open the playbook, and spread the field. It will be the last thing that Florida expects and it will be the best thing to try and get a victory.

This could be the perfect bounce back game for Kentucky. Even if they lose to Florida by single digits, this game could salvage the season by instilling confidence and proving that our guys can compete in the SEC this year.

But I don’t have faith in Joker’s game plan at this point. Florida wins 35-10. I hope I am wrong.

Louisville doesn’t play this week. I guess they are all on vacation celebrating their Super Bowl-like victory over Kentucky. Clint Hurtt tried to play it off by saying “It was just Kentucky”. I can’t wait to see what Mr. Hurtt will be saying on the Unemployment line once the NCAA is done with him. And that’s all I have to say about that.

SEC Game of the Week: 14 Arkansas (3-0) at 3 Alabama: September 24, 3:30 P.M.

This will be a big test for both teams, but more so for the Razorbacks. Everybody knows that they can put points on the board with Bobby Petrino at the helm, but will they be able to do it at Alabama against a team that is allowing the second fewest points in the NCAA.

Alabama is going to ram the ball down your throat and shut you down on defense. Arkansas’ defense isn’t bad, they are ranked 17th overall in points allowed but they gave up 28 against Troy, the football team not the bronze age society of warriors.

Arkansas also ranks 8th in passing and 8th in points for. I think all of that comes to an end in Tuscaloosa and Alabama sets itself up as the class of the SEC with LSU at the end of the day.

Non-SEC Game of the Week: 7 Oklahoma State (3-0) at 8 Texas A&M (2-0): September 24, 3:30 P.M.

This is Texas A&M’s swan song season in the Big 12. All of their conference opponents will be looking to beat their brains in for essentially ending their party as the second best football conference in the country.

But this game is in College Station and A&M is pretty darn good this season. They rank in the top 50 in most defensive and offensive categories while OK State is more one dimensional, ranking #1 in passing and 37th in rushing. Their defense isn’t going to make the Aggie running game very nervous at a 76 ranking.

Aggies show the Big 12 why they are moving on to greener pastures by beating the Cowboys 38-35.

NFL Game of the Week: New England (2-0) at Buffalo (2-0): September 25, 1:00 P.M.

The Bills are an easy team to root for. They are a small market franchise with a devoted fan base, really cool uniforms, and one of the greatest personalities ever to wear the UK Blue on their team. The Bills are a surprising 2-0 to start the season but the teams they have beaten are not what you would call Super Bowl Contenders. They beat the Chiefs in week 1 but the Chiefs have given up 1,000 points already and have scored only 6. They also beat the Raiders, but they’re the Raiders so no big deal.

The Pats are putting up huge numbers on offense but their defense is also giving up big points. I mean, come on, if Chad Henne can throw 400 yards on you then there is something wrong. Both teams have high powered offenses and mediocre to bad defenses. I am actually more impressed with the wins that the Pats have produced than the Bills. New England did just beat San Diego at home.

But, I am going with the upset here. There is hope in Northern New York, more so than there has been in years. The Bills will win behind the play of their Harvard quarter back and their Wildcat wide receiver.
