Could Archie Goodwin, Perry Ellis be close to making commitments?
By Paul Jordan
Last we checked, the Kentucky Wildcats and John Calipari had zero commitments for the 2012 class. While a bit unusual, it’s not really a reason for Kentucky basketball fans to worry since most of 2012’s top targets will be at Big Blue Madness. Now there is speculation (via twitter) that Archie Goodwin may be close to making his college decision soon. Goodwin sent out a tweet that he has had a “change of heart” and may make his decision within 1-2 weeks. Goodwin had previously announced that he was going to wait till the spring to decide and that apparently is the “change of heart. We like to think Goodwin is a Kentucky lean, but it is neck and neck with Arkansas and Kansas is still in the mix. John Calipari is scheduled for an in home visit with Archie today.
There also seems to be a change of heart with Perry Ellis. Apparently his mother, Fonda, has been sending out signals that Perry may make his decision shortly after the in home visits conclude, probably within a week or two, and will sign in November. John Calipari will be visiting Ellis on Friday, and that concludes a week in which Kansas, Kansas State, and Wichita State have also paid visits. As of now, no school visits have been planned.
If Archie and Perry are making their decision with an ear to the NBA, let me just interject that Kentucky is the only school in the USA that has had LeBron James stopping by to play pickup games with the squad and had him hanging around town for two days. Just saying.
A bit of bad news for Joker Phillips and his Wildcats as they prepare to face Louisville of Saturday Night. RB Raymond Sanders will miss the game with a knee injury. Sanders has 21 rushes for 97 yards on the season and it is unknown the extent of his injury and how long he may be out. As for now, it appears that Josh Clemons will start and William Coshik will back him up.
Shortly after Archie Goodwin sent out his “change of heart” tweet, this tweet went out saying that he was “waiting it out”. I like Archie Goodwin and think he will be a great Wildcat, but lest he forgets, Kentucky fans tire of being “teased on twitter”. Case in point? Kyrie Irving, Quincy Miller, and Duece Bello. Kentucky fans lusted after them for quite a while and then just seemed to tire of the constant self promotion. You seem like a good kid Archie. Think before you tweet.
Yes, I know that Kentucky plays Louisville Saturday, but we have a lot of football stuff hitting the site at 11AM and 2 PM, so I will get a bit more basketball in. Dick Vitale has released his list of “diaper dandies” and three Wildcats made the list:
2. Anthony Davis, PF-C, Kentucky
Name it, and this young man can do it. He can be a major force inside for the Wildcats. Davis also possesses great versatility.
5. Michael Gilchrist, SF, Kentucky
Gilchrist is a physical factor who must improve his range as a shooter. He can dominate on both ends of the court and has a winner’s mentality.
9. Marquis Teague, PG, Kentucky
Teague has great ballhandling skills and is a talent on the perimeter. His presence will be vital to the young Wildcats squad.
