Welcome back Big Blue Nation for part 2 of my Kentucky Football Odds & Ends. Without further ado, let’s get back at it:
Trevathan, Tydlacka, Warford Named All-SEC
Throughout the offseason linebacker Danny Trevathan, offensive guard Larry Warford, and punter Ryan Tydlacka were named to the All-SEC team by both the media and coaches. Trevathan and Warford were both named first team for both outlets and Tydlacka was named third team for both. I decided to see what former Kentucky linebackers, punters, and offensive guards were named to the All-SEC team. Here’s what I found:

- Chris Chenault, 1988
- Randy Holleran, 1988, 1990
- Marty Moore, 1992, 1993
- Jeff Snedegar, 1999

Common Opponents
If you look very closely to this season’s schedule, it might ring a bell. That’s because of the 12 teams we have on this season’s schedule, we faced 10 of them in the 2006 season. Here’s the 10 opponents from this season’s schedule that we faced in 2006 and how we fared against them 5 seasons ago:
- Kentucky – 28 #13 Louisville – 59 Loss
- Kentucky – 31 Ole Miss – 14 Win
- Kentucky – 7 #5 Florida – 26 Loss
- Kentucky 45 Central Michigan – 36 Win
- Kentucky – 17 South Carolina – 24 Loss
- Kentucky – 0 #16 LSU – 49 Loss
- Kentucky – 34 Mississippi St. – 31 Win
- Kentucky – 24 Georgia – 20 Win
- Kentucky – 38 Vanderbilt – 26 Win
- Kentucky – 12 #19 Tennessee – 17 Loss
So, of the 10 common opponents, we were 5-5 against them in 2006, with a 4-4 SEC record. I’m sure most of you would love to see a .500 record in SEC play this season. But we should beat Louisville for the 5th year in a row.
Streaks To End?
Last season we saw two streaks end in dramatic fashion, and they were both accomplished in the same game. When we defeated #10 South Carolina 31-28, it was our first win over South Carolina since 1999 and it was Kentucky’s first win over a Steve Spurrier coached team. Here are some other streaks that we unfortunately are currently under, but hopefully we can end those streaks this season:
Florida
- Kentucky last defeated the Gators in 1986 (lost last 24 meetings)
LSU
- Kentucky last defeated the Tigers in Baton Rouge in 1998
South Carolina
- Kentucky last defeated the Gamecocks in Columbia in 1999
Tennessee
- Kentucky last defeated the Volunteers in 1984 (lost last 26 meetings)
- Kentucky last defeated the Volunteers in Lexington in 1981

Kentucky has never defeated 5 ranked teams in a season. Could this be that season?
That’s all for my odds & ends leading into the 2011 season for the Kentucky Wildcats. Check back on Thursday for my Inside The Numbers post for the season opener against Western Kentucky.
