Kentucky Wildcat Basketball recruiting: Sunday Night Recruiting Notes
By Paul Jordan
It’s late Sunday evening and there are a few recruiting tidbits that have popped up over the weekend.
First and foremost, the biggest news to pop up is that Kentucky has now entered the Final Four of Kaleb Tarczewski. It’s been an interesting recruitment in that Kentucky has not seemed to be that heavily involved in Tarczewski’s recruitment and most people had written Kentucky off. Fans of Kansas and Arizona have been adamant that they were the only teams involved and that a decision was going to come last week. That never happened and now Kaleb has publicly acknowledged that it is a Final Four of Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas, and North Carolina:
“They’re on the list. They came in pretty late. They’ve been coming to a lot of games, so I’ve seen them in the court and I’ve talked to them. You know, Kentucky’s Kentucky. It’s kind of hard to not let them into recruiting.”
As of now, Kaleb is leaning towards making a visit to Lexington but has not arranged one as of yet. The college decision may still come pretty soon and that may be made in about a month or so.

Look for Archie Goodwin to pare his list soon. Currently Goodwin has a ten team list of Arkansas, Baylor, Kentucky, Kansas, Memphis, Texas, UConn, Georgetown, Tennessee and Missouri. Goodwin will cut the list to five soon and will arrange official visits with those five. Look for Kentucky to make that cut as he tells Adam Zagoria that Calipari has been calling a lot and Cal has told him that he is a top target. Goodwin says that after his last game in a recent tournament, Calipari was calling just two minutes after the game ended. It’s looking more and more like this is a two team race between Kentucky and Arkansas, but Goodwin has said he will take all five visits.

There has been some talk that 2012 big man Mitch McGary may be losing interest in Kentucky or vice versa. There also is some talk that McGary and his his school team mate TJ Warren may end up being a “package deal”. As of now, all of it seems to be just talk. McGary’s recent comments about Kentucky seems to indicate that Kentucky is not a priority right now, but does not dismiss the thought of Kentucky altogether:
“I have talked to Coach (Orlando) Antigua a couple of times, and also Coach Calipari. They offered me, and T.J. Warren, so like I said, that could be a factor, too. But I haven’t really thought much about taking a visit there or anything.”
As we said the other day, TJ Warren will be visiting Kentucky by the end of the month, possibly. It will be interesting to see if McGary’s interest in UK ratchets up a bit (or a lot) after Warren visits and he hears about Lexington first hand. In the same interview, McGary also says that he and Rick Pitino, Jr are Facebook buddies. Cute.
“I have talked on Facebook a couple of times with Coach Pitino, Jr. I really like him. I was really close to him when he was at Florida. But when he went to back to Louisville, that kind of shook things up, but they are definitely in the mix.”

Now we really can’t have a recruiting update without Shabazz Muhammad, so here is some video from him from about a week ago in which he talks a bit about his recruiting:. Apparently we can expect that list to be cut within the past month or so.
