Kentucky Wildcats 5 For Friday: "Who's Driving This Car Anyway" Edition

facebooktwitterreddit

Ladies and Gentlemen, there were sooooo many jackasses I wanted to feature on this edition of 5 For, that I just could not honestly put them all up on one page, so I am simply placing this fine specimen at the top of the page in place of all of the folks that you are about to read my wonderful words of prose concerning. Or at least some of them anyway.

One: Although he will be covered in detail in a post later this weekend, Ohio State Football Coach Jim Tressel gets the opening salvo this morning. Turns out he was not quite forthcoming concerning his behavior with the NCAA. REALLY???? You are kidding, right??? In the immortal words of Eddie Murphy, “Tell us something we don’t know……..” Seems as though the players in question did a little more than get a free tattoo every now and then as well. Chevrolet Tahoes, and other fine items were a part of the hoopla that is now known as Tressel’s Trading Post. Gotta love those Buckeyes.

Two: In light of all of this, seems as though the NCAA might have gone a bit easy on the Bucks, don’t you think? ‘Nuff said.

Three: (NCAA part 2) The “free look” period has been eliminated by the NCAA for all draft intrigued parties. From now on, you are either in or out. Way to work with those young men in helping them get to the next level there Mr. Emmert. I see just how concerned about these kids and their futures you really are now. How could I have been so wrong and not seen this concern before? It just stymies me.

Four: Mitch Barnhart is trying everything he knows to keep Commonwealth Stadium a viable entity for as long as possible. However, because the University was going to loan the athletic department some money, it seems some of the academia were a bit up in arms. Never mind the fact that it was not going to take away from anything involving the school or it’s budget. Noooo, it is another free ride for the athletes which comes at the expense of higher education. Puhleeeeeze. Keep trying Mitch, someone, somewhere, somehow, has your back. Just don’t count on it being a college professor.

Five: ( One for the sane and smart people in the world) John Calipari has proved to me once again that he may very well be the smartest man on the face of the planet. No offense to that Stephen guy. Calipari has created a “Kentucky Combine”. A perfectly legal way on both sides ( NCAA and NBA) for the Kentucky kids to show what they have to the NBA scouts. All of the Draft eligible kids will participate, and every NBA team has been invited to the event on May 2-3. Nice to see that someone out there has not gotten so completely insane they forget why they are on the planet. Check it out at http://www.coachcal.com/ . I am more and more amazed by this man every day. I am thinking we let him have a shot at this U.S. Economy thingy. Couldn’t hurt.
