Kentucky Wildcats 5 for Wednesday: Ryan Harrow not on campus after all
By Paul Jordan
There were a couple of different pieces of news that came out yesterday concerning PG Ryan Harrow. First, he did decide that he would be transferring from North Carolina State. The other bit is a bit confusing. Even though several other sites reported that Harrow was on the UK campus yesterday, he was not. Regardless, Harrow seems interested in UK, band vice versa. Harrow would not be eligible until the 2012 season, but that class does not seem to have a lot of PG’s available, so Harrow could be a nice grab.
John Clay expects 2012 to be a banner year in college basketball all around, which is heightened by the recent decisions of Sullinger and company to stay in school. But what about the UK NBA THREE? Clay seems to hint that none of the trio will be returning to Lexington. Don’t worry. UK will still have a good season.
Part of the reason for all the anticipation for next year is the 2011 class. It already seems to be a tight knit class and part of that bonding seems to center around Calipari. The players remember the little things, like when Calipari travelled to Hamburg, Germany just to watch his commitments Teague and Gilchrist play.
John Calipari will have a busy summer this year as it was announced that he will coach the Dominican Republic team. Calipari released the following statement:
"During the season, I was approached by the Dominican Basketball Federation to become involved in helping grow basketball in their country. Now that our season is over, I can give proper attention to other things, such as this.My question to the Dominican Basketball Federation was, why are you calling me? Their response was, they liked what we are doing in China, including coaching their coaches and being involved in promoting grassroots basketball. Not only would I help train coaches in the Dominican Republic and here in Lexington like we have with the Chinese coaches, but I would also coach their national team. The commitment would mainly be from the start of August through mid-September. The Dominican Republic national team would train in our state-of-the-art facilities at the Joe Craft Center in Lexington prior to the start of the Tournament of the Americas, which would begin towards the end of August.I wanted the Big Blue Nation to be aware of what’s going on in your program. If I move forward on this, I’ll be asking you to adopt the Dominican Republic national team as your third team behind your Kentucky Wildcats and Team USA. I also want to let all our friends in China know that we will continue our relationship with the CBA and their coaches."
Finally, this video apparently aired during the NCAA Tournament, but John Calipari and Rod Strickland talk about the lineage of Calipari PG’s (Rose, Evans, and Wall) to the NBA.
