Kentucky Wildcats 5 for Tuesday: Patrick Patterson's advice to Brandon Knight, Terrence Jones? "Stay, win a championship"
By Paul Jordan
Another day, still no news on the impending NBA decisions of Terrence Jones and Brandon Knight. While it is widely speculated that the pair will at least test the waters, everyone is weighing in with their opinions on what the duo should do. Which leads to this exchange on Twitter between Patrick Patterson and a fan:
@GrnProSolutions
Douglas Moore
@pdpatt knowing what u know about nba and lockout looming. What would be ur advice to Jones & Knight?
@pdpatt
Patrick Patterson
@GrnProSolutions stay, win a championship, then think about putting name n the draft.
It’s pretty good advice seeing that Patterson passed up that elusive championship by going to the pros last year. It’s one thing to go to the pros and miss out on a title. It’s another to go to the pros. sit for a year in a lockout and watch your ex-team mates win a championship. Good advice.
As I mentioned in the midnight post, Patrick Patterson fired back at Bobby Knight’s comments via twitter. Well, another of those “five starters that never went to class”DeMarcus Cousins also fired back at Knight via twiter. Boogie was a bit more diplomatic, but he went a step further than Patterson and asked for a retraction:
"@boogiecousins demarcus cousins :All respect Coach Knight but I went to my spring classes at UK and finished out strong good gpa even after declaring for draft.@boogiecousins demarcus cousins: Hope you correct your statement!"
A quick check of the ESPN website shows no mention of the Knight comments despite two current NBA players disputing the comment. ESPN has covered much less than this with much more fanfare. What gives, ESPN? Afraid to expose one of your own?
With the news that Harrison Barnes is staying in school, that moves Brandon Knight up another spot or two in the prospective NBA Drafts. NBADraft.net now has Knight as the fifth pick overall, two picks behind Enes Kanter. Interestingly enough, Terrence Jones is forecasted at 12th.
I’m sorry. I love Brandon Knight. But top five is top five. And with Sullinger, Barnes, Henson, and all the other players staying in school this year more than likely going to the NBA next year, I find it hard pressed to find a scenario where Knight is in the top five next year. Jones on the other hand, can play himself into the top five, even with those guys in the draft next year. As for Liggins and Lamb, their name appear nowhere on the latest edition of the mock draft.
Since we are looking at prognostications and such today, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has released his bracketology for 2012 and I have to say that I really, really, really like this bracket. Now of course, this is a fair and balanced bracket with the number one seeds spread out across the tournament. Ohio State, North Carolina, and Texas mare the other number one seeds.
In reality, the NCAA would give UK and UNC say a Sweet 16 matchup or something like that. Also with Kansas, Louisville, and UNC on the schedule next season, UK would have to have one of the toughest ooc schedules in the land.
And Joker Phillips did confirm that Kentucky would have new uniforms this season. Is this a look at them? They appear to be the front runner, although it is unclear whether the new unis were going to be a one game thing like some teams have done with the Nike unis or a whole new look. In other news, Rich Brooks angrily tweeted a rant about black uniforms.
That’s it for me today, have a great day BBN.
