Kentucky Wildcats 5 for Friday: Kansas turning up the pressure on Trevor Lacey
By Paul Jordan
For someone that has decided where he will go to school next year, there seems to be a good bit of indecisiveness surrounding Trevor Lacey. Lacey met with Alabama coach Anthony Grant but Kansas coach Bill Self will be paying a visit tomorrow. So much for the rumors that it was between Kentucky and Alabama as Kansas appears to be in the mix as well.
And then there is the timing of the announcement. It was supposed to be National Signing Day …. but then was moved to April 22 when his team celebrates their state title. Now there is word that celebration may be moved to April 12. And while we are reading tea leaves, does anyone want to tackle this cryptic quote about where he will attend school:
"“Basically coming in and just talking about their style of play. It’s about the supporting cast and playing and life after basketball. I just want to be comfortable the next four years or however long. I want to go somewhere where I don’t want to be home.”"
Another day, more NBA defections. This time, the Kansas Jayhawks are losing both Morris twins, Marcus and Markieff, to the NBA. It’s a big hit for the Jayhawks who may still lose Josh Selby as well. Still mno word on the UK players that may test the water in the NBA, although the big rumor now is that Brandon Knight may be the most likely to leave school. But so far, it’s all speculation, so keep your fingers crossed that everyone stays.
So let’s get crazy for a minute and assume hat when marquis Teague and his 2011 class arrives in Lexington, he joins a UK squad with Knight, Jones, Liggins, and Lamb. That’s right. Let’s dream the impossible dream and assume that no UK players bolt to the NBA. What would happen?
Well, Rival’s Jerry Meyer has looked at this scenario and he thinks that some of the 2011 guys could nudge the current guys out of their starting spots:
"In that scenario, Meyer envisions Davis and Gilchrist starting alongside Knight and Jones in a lineup with Teague and Lamb competing for the fifth spot in the lineup."
Can someone please tell me what the hell is wrong with the Associated Press? They released their Final rankings of the season and apparently refused to acknowledge that the NCAA Tournament even existed. The NCAA Champion UConn Huskies were ranked 9th and Kentucky was ranked 11th. And the sportswriters want to go on believing that Ohio State is still the best team in the country.
WTF? Check it out here.
As it turns out, Brandon Knight’s last second trey against UConn was meaningful after all. It cemented this year’s Wildcats as the top three point shooting team in Kentucky history. Check the chart:
