Well yesterday brought us the official start to the tournament though if you are like me it doesn’t begin until the play in games, I mean first round, is over. But to recap what happened with the play in games last night Clemson pull a very comfortable win over UAB 70-52. Clemson was playing for a 12 seed in the tournament to take on West Virginia Thursday at noon. Some say that Clemson has what it takes to pull off the upset over West Virginia. The other play in game took place between UNC-Ashville and Arkansas Little Rock. The Bulldogs of UNC-Ashville was able to pull off an 81-77 victory to play Pittsburg at 3:00 PM, Thursday.

Now Kentucky has recently finished their practice in Tampa preparing for their game tomorrow against Princeton. It looked to be a good crowd on hand for the open practice. It looks like Tampa will be painted blue but what would you expect anywhere the Cats go it will be that way.

It looks like more awards have come in for are two favorite freshmen. Brandon Knight and Terrence Jones have both been named to the USBWA Freshman All-American team. Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger took home the freshman of the year award this season.

While we are on the topic of awards Victoria Dunlap brought home the SEC Player of the Year award for the second year in a row. Here is what she had to say about winning the award.

“It’s a great honor to be named SEC Player of the Year by The Associated Press,” Dunlap said. “Really, all the credit goes to my teammates and coaching staff for helping me become the best player I can be. None of this would be possible without them. I’m so proud to work hard every day for this team and the University of Kentucky. We now have our sights on winning the National Championship.”

She has also been named a finalist for the Wooden Award which is given out to the national player of the year. She is on a list of 20 people to win this award. Though it does not look like she was chosen as one of the finalist for the award being named to the list is still a great honor.

It looks as if Coach Cal has been named to a list as well but isn’t one he will want his name on. Forbes.com has named him the most overpaid coach in college basketball. He is followed by former Wildcat Travis Ford. They say that Cal’s 4 million a year salary just doesn’t add up seeing he has only been to two final fours and never won a championship. They compare his 19 year body of work to Tubby Smith who has only been to the final four once and won a national championship but only makes 2.5 million a year.

Speaking of former coaches Billy Clyde may be find out today if he is finally off unemployment or not today. Rumors are going around the Gillispie will be named the head coach at Texas Tech today. Billy Clyde was on the Galloway & Company radio show, though he did not address Texas Tech rumor he did say that he hoped to be coaching next season. I believe we
have heard that line from him before so we will all just have to wait and see.
