Kentucky Wildcats Baseball: Littrell Has Another Great Start For Bat Cats

facebooktwitterreddit

Well the Bat Cats go 1-1 this midweek with a high scoring win over Eastern Kentucky, 8-1 and a late rally come back my Mid-Tennessee State9-4 to win.

Tuesday’s game with Eastern Kentucky was a career high game for who I believe if he continues to play this way will be on the player of the year list in the SEC, Taylor Black. Black had an amazing 4-for-5 game with three runs scored, an RBI, a double and a triple missing going for the cycle by one little home run but still a career high day. This game also brought up Corey Littrell to mound for his second start in a Wildcat uniform. If you recall his first start he held a no hitter going late into the game. This game against EKU was not quite that but it was still a career high day going 7.0 innings and only allowing three hits. While only giving up one run, two walks and striking out five. The Cats than brought Braden Kapteyn to the mound for his third relief of this young season he went two scoreless innings, hitless innings striking out four of seven at bats while hitting one. The bats where defiantly in tune during this game as the Cats went for 12 hit game while scoring eight runs. A couple other guys had good games as centerfielder Brian Adams recorded a multi-hit game going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double. Though one of the more impressive things is the hit streak of Thomas McCarthy, he has gone 12 straight games recording a hit. This is the club-high as he went 1-for-4 with a walk.

Wednesday brought in MTSU and Jonathan Paquet to the mound for the Bat Cats. Paquet pitched three shutout innings before giving up two runs in the fourth which would end his day. Followed by Alex Phillips who was awarded the loss he went 3.0 innings giving up two more runs. With a with a 3-3 game in the top of the eighth inning is when all hell broke loose for the Bat Cats as MTSU scores six runs in this one inning alone. Though pitching was not great for the Bat Cats they was able record nine hits in this game while scoring four runs. Eight of nine guys hit a run with the only two hit game come from Chad Wright who went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk. This game would be the end of McCarthy’s hit streak as he gets to begin fresh again on Friday.

The Cats will continue their home stretch this weekend as they take on Niagara. This is the final weekend of non-conference play Niagara is currently 2-9 while the Bat Cats are 6-7. Kentucky plans to put Taylor Rogers on the mound against Drew Fittry. Rogers currently has a record of 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA while his opposite Fittry has a 2-0 record winning Niagara only games. Fittry currently holds a 4.61 ERA. This is the Friday night match up that begins at 4 PM. Saturday’s game at 1 PM puts Alex Meyer on the mound against Cody Kasper. Meyer has a record of 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA while Kasper has an 0-3 record with a 14.54 ERA. Sunday’s game puts Jordan Cooper against Joel Klock at 1 PM. Cooper has a 1-0 record with a 3.86 ERA and Klock with a 0-4 record has an 11.02 ERA. These games will take place at Cliff Hagan Stadium weather permitting.

Also for all of you little league or youth league coaches out there the UK baseball team will be holding a coaches clinic before the game on Saturday. This will give you a chance to speak with the coaches and improve your coaching ability to put the best product on the field. This clinic will be free of charge and will also give you a free ticket to the game following. If you would like to attend this event you must call ahead to be a part of this event at (859) 257-5526. It’s not every day the University of Kentucky offers free clinics so this is something to take advantage of.
