Kentucky Football Recruiting: Ten Good Questions & Five Bad Ones with Adam Wing
By Paul Jordan
Today marks the first in a new series of interviews we’re calling “Ten good questions…and five bad ones.” Hopefully these question-and-answer sessions will help or readers get to know some of Kentucky’s top targets and what they bring one the field as well as off of it.
Our inaugural interview in the series will kick off with Rowan County (KY) senior quarterback Adam Wing. I’ll give you a couple of stats for Adam from the 2010 to demonstrate the caliber of athlete he is.
-He rushed the ball 92 times for 561 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging over 6 yards per carry.
-He finished the season with 1,730 yards passing while throwing for 13 touchdowns and only one interception
-On defense, he finished the year with 25 tackles, 3 interceptions, and a fumble recovery.
So without further ado…
#2 – Adam Wing – QB – 6’4 – 200 – Rowan County High School
Kyle: What do people need to know about you as a player and athlete?
Adam: “I bring a positive attitude, I’m a leader on and off the field, and Grades are extremely important to me – I keep at least a 3.0 (GPA).”
–
Kyle: What are the strengths of your game and what do you want to improve?
Adam: “Well, one strength is moving when the pocket collapses and throwing on the run, when I scramble. Two things I want to work on are speed and strength.”
–
Kyle: What schools are recruiting you and who’s after you the hardest? Any offers yet?
Adam: “Right now the schools recruiting me are Marshall, UK, Louisville, Ball State, and Northwestern. Marshall is after me the hardest and offered me a full football scholarship to play quarterback.”
–
Kyle: What are you looking for in the school you will attend?
Adam: “Location…Well sort of. I don’t want to go across the country or anything. Cost is a factor of course. I want to be a teacher, so the university I attend has to offer an education program. And playing time.”
–
Kyle: What are your goals for your senior season
Adam: “My personal goal is to gain around 15 to 20 pounds. I’m at 200 right now and I would like to be closer to 220. I also want to get faster. I ran a 4.78 second forty at Kentucky’s Jr. Day and would like to get down to a 4.6 (forty-yard dash time). My goal for our team is to win state of course. We went 10-2 last year, which was our best record in a long time.”
–
Kyle: What other sports do you participate in, and how are they going?
Adam: “I also play basketball. We just won our region and will play against the Region 3 champions, Daviess County.
Note: The game is at 12:30 PM on 3/17/2011 in Rupp Arena for anyone interested in getting a look at Adam on the hardwood.
–
Kyle: What does your summer schedule look like? What camps/combines do you plan on attending?
Adam: “I’ll be doing the Football University, called the FBU camp in June. I plan on going to camps with Marshall, with Kentucky, maybe Northwestern, maybe Western (Kentucky), and maybe Louisville.”
–
Kyle: What type of scheme do you hope to play in at the college level? Offense and/or defense?
Adam: “On offense, I like the spread out of the gun. We run a lot of option now (At Rowan County HS). On defense, I don’t really care to be honest. I’ve played free safety on D, but only maybe 50 snaps this year.”
–
Kyle: Which game in particular are you most looking forward to in your senior season?
Adam: “The district championship.”
–
Kyle: What are the top three things you bring to a college team?
Adam: “Character, Commitment, and Hard-Work.”
–
On to some non-sport related questions…
–
Kyle: Is Lady GaGa hot or weird?
Adam: “Umm….a mixture. She can be alright when she wants to be.”
–
Kyle: You have to have one of the best names for a quarterback I can remember. A quarterback named Wing. Thoughts?
Adam: “Haha, like ‘wing it.’ That’s funny.
–
Kyle: How do you feel about Charlie Sheen?
Adam: “Uhh… who is that?”
Kyle: The guy from Two and a Half Men?
Adam Wing: “I don’t know who that is.”
Kyle: Wow I’m getting old, never mind.
–
Kyle: How many Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers can you eat without throwing up?
Adam: “Maybe 10? Yeah, probably 10.”
–
Kyle: If you were a dog, what kind would you be?
Adam: “If I were a dog… Probably a Pit-Bull because I can be ferocious and nasty.”
–
Kyle: Who is Adam Wing?
Adam: “I come to play. I’m going to bring intensity every day. I’m going to work hard.”

Adam should be one of the top quarterbacks in the state this year on a very good Rowan County team. I would like to thank Adam for taking the time to speak with me and I plan to check in periodically to update everyone on any news throughout the year.
