Kentucky Wildcats Farmer's Almanac for Thursday (3/3/11)

One game left in the season and Richie gives the Cats a thumbs up.

It looks like our Wildcats will be keeping a close eye on Georgia and Vanderbilt for the rest of the week hoping one of them falls to keep the three way tie for the number two spot in the SEC east. The Wildcats was hoping for a LSU win over Georgia last night which did not happen. Georgia won by a comfortable 73-53 against the Tigers. This makes the game against Tennessee on Sunday even more important to the Wildcats. Kentucky will be going into a packed Thompson-Boiling Arena on Senior Day to play for their bye in the SEC Tournament.

It looks like the Vols need some help because they seem scared after their last lose to Kentucky. Scotty Hopson sent out an E-mail begging Tennessee fans needing them to be at their next two games because they are such a train wreck they need some kind of support. This game isn’t even sold out and from what I hear there will be a lot of Blue and White fans in the crowd for Senior Day. Here is what Hopson a Kentucky native had to say in his begging email to Vols students.

What’s up UT students? It’s Great to be a Tennessee Vol!

We need to chat about what we got coming up.
First of all, WE NEED YOU! The SEC East is tough this season and we’re fighting to rep the Big Orange right.

We only have two more games at Thompson-Boling Arena this season, so we really need your support when we take on Mississippi State on Saturday, Feb. 26, and on Sunday, March 6 when that blue team comes to Rocky Top. Both games are on national TV and we want everyone to see why we have the best fans in the country right here at Tennessee.

They’re going to know it, too. Because when Thompson-Boling is rocking, there is no tougher place to play in the nation. That’s why we need you to make sure that we pack the house for the Bulldogs and Wildcats. We feed off your energy and you help us more than you’ll ever know.
My teammates and I want to ask you to please come out and help us get a ‘W’ over Mississippi State and Kentucky. We need you! Come early, be loud and wear Orange.
Let’s do this,
Hop
(Scotty Hopson)

Speaking of the devil, I mean Tennessee it looks like the UK Hoops team is hoping that they get a chance to play the Lady Vols one more time this season. The Women’s SEC Tournament starts today and the Lady Cats are ranked the no. 2 team in the bracket and will not start their play until tomorrow. But they want another shot at the no. 1 team Pat Summitt’s Lady Vols who went 16-0 in SEC play this season. The last meeting between the Hoops team and the Vol’s Kentucky only fail by six points so they have the chance to pull off the win. The UK Hoops squad is ranked No. 16 heading into the tournament and have put up a good season to return to the NCAA tournament but they can insure their chance winning the Tournament.

It looks as if Kentucky’s coaching staff made a little stop to visit Braeden Anderson. Anderson previously committed to DePaul but has since de-committed and has his schools choices down between Kansas and Kentucky. Kentucky is in search to get what lacked this year and that was a big man to play down low. Anderson is one of their two choices to fill this role another guy that Cal has on his radar is Junior College player Stan Simpson for the 2011 class. It looks as if Anderson will be making a visit to Kansas in the next couple of weeks.

Kentucky has set their targets on three choices for 2012. UK wants Shabazz Muhammad, Andre Drummond and Archie Goodwin. (We have mentioned these guys several time on WBN so this should be no surprise.) Another guy Kentucky is pursuing is Brandon Ashley who is a five-star recruit. Ashley is ranked the top power forward in the 2012 class and would be a great addition for the Cats.

And last but not least for your viewing pleasure I bring you former Kentucky coach as current Minnesota coach Tubby Smith. Tubby knocks down 84 free throws out of 88 in this two minute video. I think he needs to come back and give Coach Cal a few pointers on how take advantage of the charity stripe.
