Kentucky Wildcats 5 for Tuesday: Shabazz Muhammed to attend Kentucky's game tonight
By Paul Jordan
Kentucky will have a big visitor tonight for their game against Vanderbilt as Shabazz Muhammed will attend the Senior Night festivities. Muhammed is ranked as the 3rd best player in the 2012 class and also the top shooting guard. In an interesting twist, Muhammad was supposed to attend the Louisville/Pitt game on Sunday but cancelled. If you read the tea leaves, that seems to be a good thing for John Calipari and Kentucky.
Tonight is of course Jorts Night, otherwise known as Senior Day and Kentucky’s Josh Harrellson will be the only Kentucky player bursting through that paper hoop. Jorts was a special guest on a UKAA live chat yesterday in which fans asked him questions and here are a few tidbits from that chat:
"Q: What are your plans after you graduate?Josh Harrellson: I definitely plan on trying out for NBA Draft, testing out the waters. If that doesn’t work I’ll see what overseas offers. If that doesn’t work hopefully I’ll do something with kids one day. Q: Is there anyone player that you looked up to the most that you have played with in your yeas at UK???Josh Harrellson: Probably Patrick. Everything he does on and off the court, he’s a great role model and my best friend. Q: What kind of music do you listen to pre-game? Any favorite songs?Josh Harrellson: Play that funky music white boy is always a good one. A little R. Kelly and Eminem too. Q: What is your weirdest fan moment at UK?Josh Harrellson: I was walking to a football game. Me, Perry and Mark Krebs and we were dropped off by the Johnson Center. There was a party bus and a bunch of guys out there drinking a little bit. This one guy got a hold of us, grabbed my hand and started screaming out, “it’s Jorts!” and then he looked down and started chanting out “Jorts is wearing Jorts! Jorts is wearing Jorts!” Q: After a long illustrious NBA career, could KY be your permanent home. Opportuniuties will abound! Josh Harrellson: I would love to spend the rest of my days in Kentucky."
Joe Lunardi has his latest edition of “bracketology” out and despite the win over Florida, the Wildcats are still listed as a #5 seed. BYU is the top seed but the #2 and #3 seeds are Notre Dame and North Carolina. If we recall, Kentucky handled Notre Dame already this year on a neutral court and lost to the Tar Heels by just two points. Washington, who Kentucky also beat and Alabama, another of those two point losses are in the bracket as well as Michigan State.
The UK Hoops squad clinched a #2 seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament and will face the winner of #7 LSU and #10 Alabama on Friday afternoon at 3:30 PM. UK defeated both teams during the regular season. They knocked off LSU 49-47 and Alabama 82-69.
Finally some not so good news from the NBA concerning a couple of former Wildcats. After being injured all season, the New York Knicks have cut Kelanna Azuibuike, leaving him teamless for now. And now, out of Miami comes word that the Heat may do the same to Jamaal Magloire if they are able to land Mike Bibby and Troy Murphy. No real shock in either case as Magloire has played just seven games all season.
