Anyone else still have the blues from Wednesday night? Well I do so nothing exciting for today so I’ll get straight to the news.
Two of Kentucky’s freshmen have been named to the Wayman Tisdale National Freshman of the Year final five finalist list. Those two guys are Brandon Knight and Terrence Jones last year this award was taken home by Kentucky’s very own John Wall. The past two freshman of year winners have both been John Calipari player’s as Tyreke Evans won the award in 2009. Knight averages 17.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4 assist and Jones averages 17.6 points 9.1 rebounds, 2 blocks per game. These guys was joined on the list by Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger, Baylor’s Perry Jones III and Texas’ Tristan Thompson.
There have been reports that Trevor Lacey has signed with Kentucky for next season. These reports are FALSE. The report came from the Cullman Times and it said that “Lacey, a 6-foot-4 guard who has signed with Kentucky, hit 9-of-13 from the field and sank 5-of-12 3-pointers.” Garrett Tucker of nationofblue.com spoke with Lacey this morning and confirmed that this was a false report. Lacey has yet to commit to any school and plans to wait until national signing day to do so. For one everyone knows that no college player can sign with any school before April.
It looks like one of Coach Cal’s 2012 recruits Shabazz Muhammad will visit the state of Kentucky this weekend. Only problem with that is he will be making an unofficial visit with Rick Pitno’s Louisville Cardinals as they take on #4 Pittsburgh. He will be joined by Winston Shepard for the visit; these two guys are top of the list prospects for 2012.
Last night was Senior Night for the UK Hoops team last night as they took on Arkansas. This was an emotional roller coaster that ended with a battle back 55-54 win. This was the final game for seniors Victoria Dunlap and Carly Morrow and I’m sure they will not forget it. The night opened with the traditional senior night ceremony followed by Dunlap singing the National Anthem for the record setting crowd. This game came down to the final 4.4 seconds of the game when A’dia Mathies knocked down an important lay up to seal the deal and beat the backs. Mathies lead the team with 17 points. Dunlap also had an amazing night with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Kentucky had an awful night shooting 33.3% but they still pull out the win. This was the last time the Kentucky crowd got to see Dunlap play and put a nice end to her amazing career as a Cat.
It looks like Randall Cobb is going to try to improve his 40-yard dash time for the NFL combine. Last spring Cobb clocked a 4.55 second 40 last spring while at Kentucky which has raised questions about how quick he is.
Cobb told the Baltimore Sun: “Just shatter any expectation anybody has of me,” Cobb said. “I thought I played fast. Maybe I didn’t look as quick as I am. Hopefully, I can prove how much time I’ve put into it and the techniques I’ve been working on to improve my 40.”
The last mock draft that came out from Todd McShay has Cobb going to the Baltimore Ravens.
Billy Gillispie just can’t keep his name out of the news. A new report says Texas Tech students are calling for Gillispie to replace Pat Knight. They have started a website www.getgillispie.com and they also have made t-shirts. If you want more information on this story go to the link and check it out.
