In honor of Jorts and the 1996 team, should the Kentucky Wildcats make a return to denim?
By Paul Jordan
As we know the Kentucky Wildcats return to the road tonight to face the Arkansas Razorbacks. While this is a game that Kentucky should win, UK,s road woes are well documented. And it got me to thinking — what is it going to take to break this road slump? If we have learned anything from sports movies, there has to be a great occurence to bring about change in a struggling team.
In “Major League”, they sacrificed a bucket of KFC. In “Bull Durham”, they sabatogued the opposing team’s sprinkler system. So what should our Kentucky Wildcats do?
Well, we are playing the Arkansas Razorbacks and our lone senior in nicknamed “Jorts”. Hrmmm. I think the basketball Gods may insist on a return to the denim uniforms.
It was February 11, 1996 when the denim uniforms were debutted against none other than the ….. Arkansas Razorbacks. Kentucky won that game 88-73 and then won 13 of the next 14 to win the NCAA Championship. Of course, that team did not need the luck of denim to win on the road, but as it is right at 15 years since those magical unis appeared, there may be magic in going to them one again.
Maybe not. But if you believe in the power of the denim ….. or just the power of Jorts, you are still in luck as this little gem is still available on E-bay.
For the love of Jorts ….. order it
