Kentucky Wildcats 5 for Tuesday: Miller still a question mark for tonight's game … Hood to get the minutes?
By Paul Jordan
As of now, the status of Darius Miller for tonight’s game is still up in the air due to a leg injury suffered against Vanderbilt. For those not mathematicians, this would move Doron Lamb into the starting lineup and reduce the six man rotation to five. Obviously not everyone is going to play forty minutes, so the common speculation is that Jon Hood should hear his number called often tonight should Miller not play. This could be a defining moment of the season for the sophomore from Madisonville. If Hood produces and plays well, he could find himself in the rotation the rest of the way.
Joe Lunardi at ESPN has his latest bracketology projections and we should not be surprised that the 22nd ranked Wildcats are now a 5th seed in the NCAA. What makes it interesting is that Lunardi has Memphis as a 12th seed. Think the NCAA will miss an opportunity to pair the Wildcats and the Tigers? Me either.
Regardless of whether there will be a NBA season next year or not, there will be a NBA Draft. And Seth Davis spoke with a NBA scout who had these projections on Kentucky’s Terrence Jones and Brandon Knight … plus a very interesting comment on Kentucky’s opponent tonight:
"Terrence Jones, 6-8 freshman forward, KentuckyHe’s a lottery pick. He scores inside and in transition. His shot is low, but if he takes his time he can make shots. He needs to be a little less selfish with the basketball, but he’s a talented kid. He’s a poor man’s Michael Beasley. I’m not sure I trust his shot yet, but man, he competes. People ask, What position is he? I say he’s a basketball player.Brandon Knight, 6-3 freshman guard, KentuckyMature personality, fantastic worker, can really shoot the basketball. Winning matters to him. He’s in the first round if he comes out, for sure. People try to compare him to Derrick Rose and Tyreke Evans, but he’s not at their level. The one thing I will say about him is he’s an absolute gym rat. He loves being in the gym and working on his game. He may not be a prototypical point guard, but with his work ethic, size, speed and ability to shoot, you have to take a chance on him.Renardo Sidney, 6-10 sophomore forward, Mississippi StateI have no interest in him. He’s a fat kid. The history on him is just not good. If he had no baggage and it was just a weight issue, then he’d probably get more attention. If you’re going to have a weight issue plus baggage, you better be Shaquille O’Neal off the charts. Now some other team might say he’s talented, we can deal with all this stuff, let’s take him. But he’s not for me."
2012 recruit JP Tokoto has narrowed his list of schools to eight and not surprisingly, Kentucky was one of them. Tokoto has a final eight teams of Connecticut, Kansas, Kentucky, Marquette, Maryland, North Carolina, UCLA and Wisconsin.
Help is on the way to Lexington next year in the form of four McDonald All American’s. Jeff Goodman has a scouting report on Michael Gilchrist, a member of the class. It should come as no shock that the report says Gilchrist is an impact player and will help the Cats compete for a national title.
