Kentucky Wildcat's 5 for Friday: Will the Cats be ranked in the top 10 today?

facebooktwitterreddit

Good morning BBN.  How was your weekend?  Well, Wildcat fans have a reason to feel pretty good about themselves this morning.  As less-than-pretty as the Kentucky win over Georgia was on Saturday, it is still a reason to feel pretty good about the Cats.  That’s because only 8 teams in the Top 25 made it through the week without at least one blemish on the week …. it was a weird, wild week for sure.  So how far will the Wildcats rise in the polls?

Well, the Wildcats are currently ranked 14th in the AP Top 25 and 16th in the ESPN/USA Today poll.  Some people seem to think that Kentucky will be a top 10 team by the end of the day.  Well it is possible.  Here are the teams that lost this past week that are currently ahead of Kentucky:  2.  Pittsburgh, 3.  Duke, 4.  San Diego State, 5.  Connecticut,  8.  Villanova,  9.  Syracuse, 9.  Brigham Young, 11.  Missouri, 12.  Purdue, and 13.  Texas A&M.  Of those teams, Villanova and Syracuse lost twice this week.

With the six teams in front of Kentucky all losing, Kentucky could vault all the way into the number eight spot in the AP Top 25, and number 10 on the coaches poll.  That puts them back into play for a number one or number 2 seed, but as we know, that just makes the target larger on their back on the road this week.

The UK hoops team continues to roll with a 82-69 road win over Alabama last night.  Victoria Dunlap had 25 points and 15 rebounds to lead the 17th ranked Wildcats.  Keyla Snow added 13 points as UK improved to 17-4 and 7-2 in the SEC.  UK Hoops in next in action Thursday back in Lexington versus Auburn.

A Sea of Blue has more defensive stats from Kentucky’s win over Georgia than you can shake a stick at.  It’s filled with charts and good stuff if you are a stat geek.  I will sum part of it up for you though.  DeAndre Liggins is really, really active on defense.

Kentucky made some football news over the weekend when they kept Tee Martin out of Nick Saban’s grasp but Joker Phillips could not go for the sweep against Saban.  It seems that WR Darryl Collins, a WR that Kentucky had high hopes of plucking from the Tide, has decided to remain a commit of Nick Saban.  It’s a different climate when we are keeping coaches from Alabama and trying to lure commits from them.

Keep in mind that National Signing Day is Wednesday and the WBN Football Editor Kyle and Zach Rosen will be covering signing day all day long on Wednesday.  It’s a big step for the Wildcat Blue Nation as we know there are a lot of football fans that really don’t have one site to go to for football news and we are trying to provide that for you, in addition to basketball coverage.

I’d also like to announce that the Wildcat Blue Nation is going to be one of the few site that will offer regular coverage of the Bat Cats for the baseball season.  We will have a baseball column on Monday and Friday at noon to cover the season and Phillip Broyles will be covering that.  Phillip has a four part season preview lined up and part one airs today at noon.
