Would Kentucky storm the court? Jeff Goodman thinks so

I usually do my tweeting during class. Checking up on all the national writers, KSR and other blogs I follow and usually it’s where I get my good bit of information on sports for the day. Today I found something that kind of bugged me and I wanted to share it with you all, because I know all of Big Blue Nation would agree on this subject.

As you know Indiana upset Illinois last night at home and decided it would be okay to storm the court. First thing you should know is Illinois is only ranked 21st in the nation and already had 6 losses on the season. Including a loss to the Illinois-Chicago Flames (who?). Illinois is far from being a power house and they could only be explained as mediocre at best. Indiana beat them and DECIDED TO RUSH THE COURT.

Yes, Indiana fans stormed the court last night over their upset win of the 21st ranked team in the country and decided it was time to celebrate, so Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio tweeted this out:

Not to sound like a Scrooge, but the over the top celebration by IU fans last night is bizarre. You beat a medicore Illini team! Get a grip!

To put things in perspective I do give the Indiana fans some leeway but not enough for them to storm the court. Here is another video of them celebrating like they just won the national championship: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoH54tXSSnk (Seriously…Watch it, it’s insane)

I know that Indiana fans are literally drooling over the thoughts of having a good team again and I really like Tom Crean, he’s a great guy. Even after the UK game this year after his radio show he stood up in front of all the UK fans and applauded them and told them they were great fans…Even with all of that it doesn’t justify a court storming.

But just wait, this gets better. Later on after Jones’ tweet about how it was crazy for them to storm the court. Jeff Goodman replied with this tweet to Jones:

goodmanonfox Jeff Goodman

@MattJonesCBSHowever, I do think Kentucky fans, if put in the same scenario as IU fans, would have done the exact same thing last night.

I usually like Goodman and his articles and he is by far one of my favorite college basketball analysts but is he serious?

False. UK would NEVER EVER IN A MILLION YEARS storm the court. It doesn’t matter if Kentucky had been on probation for four years, if we played the number one team at home with a depleted roster, we would not only want to beat that team and hope to beat that team we would EXPECT to beat that team.

Heck, even Stanford after snapping the UConn women Huskies winning streak didn’t storm the court. That speaks volumes, you have to expect to win if you are a top program and like it or not…Indiana is a top program of all time and I even consider them a top rival because they quite frankly love basketball almost as much as Kentuckians.

We’ve beaten Florida when they just became number one, we’ve given Vanderbilt their first loss of the season and won a lot of other home games at Rupp Arena that would be the equivalent of Indiana storming the court, so either Jeff Goodman is just trying to get a good rise out of UK fans or he really has no clue what he’s talking about on this one. We would never storm the court and there is no scenario to justify it.

Look for another storming of the court when the Hoosiers upset Northwestern at home the fifth of February.
