Kentucky Wildcats 5 for Wednesday: Cats are in a position to put the Bulldogs down

facebooktwitterreddit

Thanks to last night’s Florida win over Georgia, the Kentucky Wildcats have the opportunity to narrow the list of competitors in the SEC East by one by defeating Georgia on Saturday.  A loss by the Bulldogs would give them four losses in the SEC season and would go a long way to eliminating the Bulldogs.  While the Bulldogs will not be totally down, this will push them to the bottom of the East and require them to go 9-0 or 8-1 the rest of the way.  All that means is that Kentucky will be playing a team that has beaten them once already this season, and a team that has its back up against the wall.  The Cats will need to be on top of their game, but they have a a golden opportunity at home this weekend.

For some unexplained and random reason, ESPN’s and Rick Pitino’s very own Pat Forde decided to take some more shots at Kentucky fans.  He was talking about Tom Izzo’s call in show and then decided to throw the BBN under the bus as well:

"Not surprisingly, given the over-the-top ardor of its fans, Kentucky has a history of sanity-challenging call-in shows. Tubby Smith (8) probably deserves some kind of humanitarian award for 10 years of enduring them. Tubby isn’t a gifted orator — he starts and stops and hems and haws and will employ the confusing thematic jump-switch in mid-sentence — but he was a true diplomat during his days in the Bluegrass.A lot of the calls to Tubby went like this:“Coach Smith? This is Orville from Monkey’s Eyebrow (9)*. I just want to know what it’s going to take for us to play more up-tempo, like we used to, and when you’re going to put Josh Carrier in the starting lineup. He’s a Kentucky boy and I think he deserves a shot.”Translation: When are you going to resign?Tubby’s response: “Well, Orville, you certainly bring up some good points. We’ll have to take a look at that.”Translation: You have absolutely no clue. Fifty-five minutes until we’re off the air.*Monkey’s Eyebrow is a real town in Kentucky"

Maybe Louisville’s loss to Providence put Forde in a ranting mood about the Wildcats.  Ya think?

ESPN has re-released their 2011 class rankings and to no shock to anyone, Kentucky is still the number one ranked class in the land.  It’s interesting to see that St. Johns and their incoming class of nine (!) players has settled into the second spot.

Austin Rivers still has the top individual player spot, but he is followed by Kentucky recruits Anthony Davis and Michael Gilchrist at numbers two and three.  ESPN’s Dave Telep seems to think that Davis can eventually ascend to the top spot:

"For a number of reasons, we’re sold that Davis is the top long-term prospect in the class. The former guard continues to grow into his body, while displaying tremendous instincts and putting up great numbers. If one looks at all the elite players, Davis has the worst surrounding cast, but the great news is that despite being outmanned he’s committed to producing. Is he still learning the game and scratching the surface? Absolutely. Do we think he can finish No. 1? We certainly do."

If you are the type that likes a healthy dose of stats with their morning coffee, Ken Howlett over at A Sea of Blue is breaking down the Wildcat’s offensive performance so far this season.

With National Signing Day a week away, Bleed Kentucky Blue has an analysis of the football Wildcats roster in preparation of February 2.
