Kentucky Wildcats Daily Farmer's Almanac for Tuesday (1/25/11)
By Paul Jordan
Hello good Kentuckian’s (and the 1 IU fan that reads this site) yes we have tracking capabilities and we are on to you. Hope everyone is having a Super Tuesday and surviving their week of Kentucky Basketball withdrawal. Its tough getting through the week, I know, but I suggest some Brown Water and a lot of relaxing and we’ll all make it till Saturday together.
Now onto the news:
Did you realize that Selection Sunday is only 7 weeks away? Yeah me neither. March Madness is quickly approaching and the field of 68 (its really weird to write that) is starting to take shape. Yesterday we highlighted on Joe Lunardi (by the way, does anyone know what Joe does the other 45 weeks out of the year when he’s not teaching Bracketology) and where he places the Cats. Today we see that The Sporting News says Kentucky at this point is a 4 seed that could be really dangerous come March.
Here is a breakdown of the first 4 seeding levels:
– 1 Seeds: Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Duke, San Diego State
– 2 Seeds: Connecticut, Kansas, Villanova, BYU
– 3 Seeds: Syracuse, Texas, Texas A&M, Purdue
– 4 Seeds: Missouri, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Kentucky
Long gone are the days when our players had names like John, Kyle, Richie, Darren, Scott and Patrick. Kentucky is recruiting the likes of God’s Gift and Dajuan and more importantly Shabazz. Dave Telep says Coach Cal was in Vegas last night checking out Shabazz Muhammad whom ESPN list as the # 5 overall prospect in 2012. Go get em coach!
Obviously its a pretty slow news day, which isn’t all that bad I guess. No news is good news (unless you are in charge with relaying the news in which no news makes its hard to do a Farmer’s Almanac of the Day). Anyways There are some good games on tonight that you might want to keep track of. Namely Georgia and Florida square off. Georgia comes into Rupp on Saturday and the Cats are looking to exact some revenge on Mark Fox and the BullDawgs. So get some scouting done tonight on ESPN at 7 pm.
The Courier-Journal’s Jody Demling tweeted earlier that Eastern High School standout and Kentucky commit Jon Davis would likely be making a decision on whether or not he will switch his commitment either today or tomorrow. Jon’s father has voiced some concern over the logjam that UK has a the Tight End position. Here’s to hoping he sticks with the Cats!
And finally with some more football news that is bitter sweet. Randall Cobb is getting some love for the upcoming NFL draft. Its hard to see my favorite Football Cat since Moe Williams going pro early, but it’ll be great to see him represent as a Wildcat in the league. The New York Times (kind of a dirty word around these parts) ranks Cobb as the 5th best receiver in the draft. Good bye Ole’ Green Eyes!
Wide Receiver:
*1. A.J. Green, Georgia
*2. Julio Jones, Alabama
*3. Jonathan Baldwin, Pittsburgh
4. Titus Young, Boise State
T-5. Jerrel Jernigan, Troy
T-5. Greg Little, North Carolina
*T-5. Randall Cobb, Kentucky
Thats all I gots for ya’s today. See ya’ll tomorrow when Richie brings us more important stuff like “does Coach Cal wear boxers or briefs and does Darius Miller prefer X-box or PS3.
GO Cats!
