Kentucky Wildcat's 5 for Monday: Kentucky basketball fans to get an early look at Teague, Gilchrist, and Davis

facebooktwitterreddit

Hello Wildcat fans.  I am delighted to be back in the saddle for the WBN and I do want to thank everyone for their emails and twitter messages concerning the death of my Father.  It really does mean a lot to get that kind of support.  And also I need to thank Greg Edwards and the rest of the staff here at the WBN.  You guys kept the ship afloat while I was away.  So now on to today’s five.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 9.  That is when Kentucky Wildcat fans will get their first look at Michael Gilchrist, Marquis Teague, and Anthony Davis will suit up for the US team in the Nike Hoops Summit.  If we recall, last year at the event, we got to watch Enes Kanter dominate Jared Sullinger.  Hopefully this will cap a great week of basketball for the Wildcats as the National Championship game will be on April 4th.  So what can be better than a Monday Night National Title with a look at the 2011 Wildcats on Saturday Night?

We know that the WBN released their SEC Basketball Power Rankings at 9PM last night, and right around the same time, A Sea of Blue released theirs as well.  We do have some fundamental differences, but it’s always fun to compare and contrast amongst friends.

Speaking of Marquis Teague, he had quite the weekend.  He was named MVP of the Marion County Tournament over the weekend and had games of 24, 28, and 30 points.  And we all know that John Calipari left right after the LSU game to see Anthony Davis play.  With Coach Cal watching (and drooling), Anthony Davis had a monster game of 32 points, 18 rebounds, 6 blocks and 3 assists.  Seriously, how is anyone else going to have a chance in 2011-12?

Chip Cosby gets us up to date with what was a very busy weekend for Kentucky football and it appears that Kentucky is getting a little bit of momentum back after a little bit of bad news earlier with the Randall Cobb decision to go pro.  And keeping on the football news train of thought …. signing day is fast approaching on February 2 and our very own football editor has an excellent look at the 2011 recruiting class and what may happen between now and Signing Day.

If you are a UK football fan, I want you to know that we are going to try to increase our football coverage to six days a week on this site … even in the slow season.   We realize that there is a whole market of football fans looking for news and hopefully we can help fill that hunger.

And so we say goodbye to Randall Cobb, the little two star recruit who could and did electrify Kentucky and college football fans during his three seasons in Lexington.  In case you missed it, Randall Cobb was the “Y” in the Kentucky cheer versus LSU and John Wall has already tweeted that he will come in for a game to be the “Y” later this season.  Being the “Y” at Kentucky games is starting to become a big time honor once again with A list celebs filling in the last letter.  Who else do you want to see this season?
