Kentucky Wildcats 5 for Tuesday: Could Trevor Lacey be the last piece for a 2011-12 title?
By Paul Jordan
Well, John Calipari has already inked the top recruiting class in 2011 and now he is looking for the proverbial cherry on the sundae. Could that topping be Alabama shooting guard Trevor Lacey? Right now, Lacey is playing like a “man among boys” and has topped the 50 point mark on a couple of occasions. Larry Vaught has talked with Lacey’s HS coach Doss. According to Doss, Lacey has a very good relationship with both Auburn coach Tony Barbee and Alabama coach Anthony Grant but he still likes Kentucky “very much” and will not make a decision before he visits UK.
Maybe, just maybe, a chance at a national title is enough to lure Lacey.
I have to admit that I am a huge fan of Dallas Maverick’s owner Mark Cuban. I know a lot of people compare him to Jerry Jones, but I disagree with that because Cuban is a real fan and has a real passion to everything that he does. And he is taking on the process of starting a playoffs system in college football. Cuban details the start of the process on his blog:
"Again, I want to be very clear to everyone. This is going to be a long, long and difficult and expensive process. There is a lot of power on the side of the incumbents. Which of course , as anyone who really knows me will tell you, is exactly the type of challenge I like to undertake. I may not win all of them, but there is quite a bit of satisfaction in taking on Goliath. This undertaking is no different. Win or lose (and i hate to lose) , it will be worth the journey."
We all know that Doron Lamb was the SEC Player of the Week last week, but Andy Katz bestows upon him an even bigger honor: National Player of the Week. Katz goes on to heap praise on the talented freshman and for all of those that like to fret and worry about “one and doners”, you can start worrying about Doron Lamb as well. (That’s sarcasm, 😉 – by the way. Sometimes I have to point it out):
"But none of them has had such a dominating performance as Lamb’s record-breaking game. Lamb scored 32 points, making 11 of 12 shots, seven of eight 3s and all three free throws he attempted. He also had two assists and zero turnovers. Lamb’s efficiency from the field was one of the most impressive of any player this season. He was as on as a player has been in a game. Winthrop provided the fodder and the game wasn’t close, as the Wildcats won by 37."
Keeping on the Doron Lamb front, Jerry Tipton tells us that Lamb is making a case to start for the Cats and while this is the case, I actually like Lamb right where he is right now, coming off the bench and being the best 6th man in the country. For the record, Lamb is averaging 28.1 minutes a game and neither DeAndre Liggins or Darius Miller have given me any indication that they do not deserve to start. And it seems that Lamb is perfectly OK with coming off the bench. I know that Cal says Doron may eventually start as well, but for now, no reason to change anything at all with this Wildcats team.
Except to FREE ENES.
It is a game night tonight and the Wildcats face their last test before heading over to the Louisville Yum! Center and facing the Dirty Birds. Here is yet another preview for tonight’s game.
