Kentucky Wildcats 5 for the day after Christmas: Boogies not returning a high five = D-League?
By Paul Jordan
Good morning BBN. How was your Christmas? Good, good.
I have to admit that mine was excellent but I did miss the BBN after making the decision to kind of shut the site down for a couple of days so I could enjoy the holidays and allow my staff to do so as well. So I’m sorry we have not been updating much over the past couple of days, but everyone needs a break over the Holidays, but we are back and I have a rant to start off the five.
So …. Boogie is in trouble once again in Cowtown and the Kings are supposedly considering him to the D-League for his latest incident which was …. refusing to reciprocate a high five during the fourth quarters of a King’s loss. Are you serious? You want to send the number five pick in the NBA Draft to NBA purgatory simply because he did not feel like slapping hands during a loss? Un-freaking-believable.
Much of the “problems” with Boogie have been things totally unrelated to the outcomes of games. Yes, “choke signals” to opponents can be considered distasteful, but once again… not affecting the outcome of a game. It’s obvious that Paul Westpahl has lost control of the team and that Cousins is being used as a scapegoat this season.
Keep in mind the Kings have gone 30-80 over the past two seasons and there was already problems long before Boogie arrived … you don’t pick fifth in the NBA draft because you are a player away from contending. What the Kings need to do is to bring some new coaching blood into the organization, wipe the slate clean with Boogie and all the other players and LET BOOGIE PLAY. We need to make “LET BOOGIE PLAY” a secondary mantra to “FREE ENES” if this absurdity continues in Cowtown.
Speaking of Enes, the self prescribed “Eve of Christmas Eve” deadline some writers set for the Boogie decision … came and went. And apparently it will now be January before we may know. As I have mentioned several times, no one knows where the NCAA will go on this and anyone that says they know are just reading tea leaves. The latest is Jerry Tipton, who assumes that the NCAA has turned down Kentucky’s latest request to re-evaluate the case based on the Cameron Newton fiasco:
"Since UK cited new information several weeks ago, it can be presumed that the NCAA again rejected the school’s request for a ruling of eligibility. So now we’re again at the point of an appeal hearing, which because of the holidays won’t be heard before January."
The Wildcats suffered somewhat of a recruiting loss recently as 2012’s Ricardo Leto decided to commit to the Providence Friars. Kentucky had been picking up the pressure on Leto, but this is a biiger blow for the Louisville Cardinals. Some pundits thought that Rick Pitino’s taking the Puerto Rican coaching job was a ploy to cement the deal with Leto. Oh well, enjoy the new job, Rick.
It’s been a while since we have had any Jorts-love, but Jason King at Yahoo! has a nice article about how Josh Harrellson has become one of the biggest surprises in college basketball. Good stuff.
Aside from freeing Enes, our other big Holiday wish was for Randall Cobb to return to UK in 2011. Well, here is a link where you can spread this wish to your facebook and twitter friends and let everyone know we want Randall back in 2011.
