The WBN postseason top 10 players in Kentucky
By Paul Jordan
Earlier this year, I released my picks for the top 10 prospects from the state of Kentucky for the 2011 class. After a long season, the names are pretty much the same, but the order has changed. Congratulations to the guys who made the postseason list.
#10
Michael Fluellen – WR – 6’5 / 200 – Seneca HS
Fluellen is new to the list and really broke out his senior year at Seneca. He has the size and speed to play at the college level and has been offered a preferred walk-on spot from Kentucky.
#9
Jerrell Moore – RB – 5’10 / 175 – Fern Creek HS
Moore was Mr. versatile this season and played his way to a scholarship offer from Kentucky and Louisville. He’s projected as a running back in college, but also has the speed and hands to play receiver.
#8
Bubba Tandy – ATH – 6’1 / 185 – Christian County HS
Tandy had a huge senior season that led his team to the 5A state championship and picked up a scholarship offer from the Wildcats in the process. He has the skills to play running back, wide receiver, or defensive back at the college level.
#7
Damarcus Smith – QB – 6’0 / 180 – Seneca HS
Smith had a huge year and led Kentucky’s largest division (6A) in passing yards (2664 yards) and passing touchdowns (26). He used his senior year to prove that he’s more than an athletic scrambler and has the passing skills necessary to play quarterback in college. He has verbally committed to Louisville.
#6
Jamon Brown – DT – 6’5 / 305 – Fern Creek HS
The massive defensive tackle and Louisville commitment had a big year in what was a disappointing 4-7 season and will look to carry over his performance to Charlie Strong’s defense.
#5
Devante Parker – WR – 6’2 / 180 – Ballard HS
Clearly the top receiver in the state, Parker had a monsterous year and led Kentucky’s 6A division in receiving yards with 1500 even on the year, and had 405 more yards than the next guy on the list, Michael Fluellen. He has committed to take his talents to Louisville next year.
#4
Darrian Miller – OL – 6’6 / 280 – Brian Station HS
The offensive lineman from Lexington had a good year despite his team struggling this season. He has all the talents you look for in an offensive line prospect, and his speed and wing-span will make him an ideal fit at left tackle in college. He has committed to play for Kentucky.
#3
Zach West – OL – 6’5 / 305 – Lexington Christian HS
West’s team made it to the state semi-finals before falling to Hazard. Kentucky was a little late getting into the game with Zach, but made up ground quickly and eventually secured a commitment from the lineman.
#2
Lamar Dawson – LB – 6’2 / 230 – Boyle County HS
Dawson had a huge year and has heard from pretty much every college a high school football player dreams of. He is still uncommitted at this time, but has said he holds Kentucky in high regard along with a few other schools. He is a game changer that should be able to contribute very early in his collegiate career.
#1
Jon Davis – ATH – 6’3 / 230 – Eastern HS
Davis taking over the #1 spot has more to do with the ridiculous year he had than Dawson not having a good season. Davis was a one man wrecking crew and led his team to the 6A playoffs where they were knocked off by Manual. Davis finished the year with 881 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns, while playing a multifaceted role for the Eagles. He has committed to Kentucky where he is expected to play TE.
