Kentucky Wildcat's 5 for Wednesday: "Mitch Barnhart has some 'splaining to do" edition

facebooktwitterreddit

Apparently Mitch Barnhart is not a candidate for the Kansas job after all.   Well we knew that, right?  Remember when Mitch publicly said he had not been contacted by the Kansas administration and stamped his foot defiantly and said he was 100% true blue?  Well right about that time, Mitch went back to Kansas and said he still wanted the Kansas AD job and well …Sports by Brooks explains:

"Because of my report, Barnhart subsequently communicated to those associated with the search for the new Kansas AD that he was still interested in the job, but that he couldn’t interview in order to keep up appearances in Lexington. In other words, if KU wanted Barnhart, it would have to hire him without an interview. That didn’t go over so well in Lawrence, so Barnhart is no longer a candidate for the job."

Shady, Mitch, shady.  I understand that coaches do the whole lying about interest in other jobs thing all the time, but it kind of bugs me that my AD does the same thing.  Does this bug anyone else?  Or is it just me?

Apparently there is a timeline for the Enes Kanter appeal now.  According to a couple of reports, the appeal will happen on Thursday by phone and it should only take around an hour or so.  Kanter will be able to speak and will be able to answer questions.  I have no clue whether doing it by phone is a good or a bad thing for UK, but it appears that we may have a decision by early nest week.

Maybe soon we will have to start a “Former Kentucky Wildcats in the NBA D-League” column as news came out that Daniel Orton was reassigned by the Magic to the New Mexico Thunderbirds.  Orton joins fellow Cats Patrick Patterson and Antoine Walker in the D-League as well as fellow first round picks Cole Aldrich, Craig Brackins and Dominique Jones.

You may have noticed that the Wildcats wore black socks last night to honor John Calipari’s mother, Donna who passed after a long battle with cancer.  While Calipari did not speak with the press after the game, he did take the time to open up about losing his mother and to express his gratitude to the BBN:

"“In the end, the cancer got the best of her, but she fought. She was 74 years old. She died with my father and my sister right there. I had been to the house probably three times in the last month and spent time with her. She knew how we all felt. In the end that last month she just wanted to sit and talk and look and say that she loved you and did the best she could. She was a great mother but she was tough.”“I’m going to miss her dearly but the memories are with me. Let me thank all the big blue nation for what you did today, for our players and how they honored my mom.”"

Saturday Down South has released their list of the “Top 10 Studs of the SEC” and two Wildcats, Danny Trevathan and Randall Cobb made the top 5 and Mike Hartline was listed a honorable mention.  So two players in the top five and a 2-6 SEC record ….  in case you missed it, I wrote my Unabomber style manifesto here about the past football season.  But congrats to Danny, Randall, and Mike.  You all are studs in my eyes.

And finally today, I offer a 6th item … offered without comment for the Red’s fans.
