Kentucky Wildcat's 5 for Monday "This is the Enes Kanter appeal week" edition

facebooktwitterreddit

Kentucky is expected to file their appeal with the NCAA this week on the Enes Kanter decision and should, according to Jerry Tipton, have a decision this week as well.  Apparently the appeal process is a very quick one, where the decision is generally made the same day, and the official announcement a few days later.  So, according to Tipton, we should know Kanter’s fate late this week or early next week.  Tipton held a Q/A session with himself and apparently, he does not feel UK’s chances at winning the appeal are that good:

"Q: What are Kentucky’s chances of winning the appeal?A: The smart money says UK and Kanter will lose the appeal. The rules (no pay for play) work against UK. So do the facts: UK agrees that Kanter or his family received $33,033 beyond the permitted necessary expenses his final season playing for a professional team in his native Turkey."

Lots of questions for the football Wildcats  after the 26th straight loss to Tennessee.  I have to admit, even I have an unwritten column I am debating on publishing.  As of right now, it is filled with too much venom and rage and I am hoping to calm down before I post it on the internet.  But right now, Larry Vaught has a question for you:  “Would you go to Birmingham for a January 8th bowl?”

A big shout out to the UK Lady Hoops team who captured the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic Tournament in Hattiesburg, MS over the weekend.  Kentucky defeated Murray State 91-59 on Friday night.  On Saturday, the Hoops team forced 33 turnovers en route to a 79-60 win over the host Southern Miss Lady Eagles.  A’dia Mathies had 14 points, 6 steals, 3 assists and 4 rebounds and was named the tournament MVP.  Kentucky won on Saturday despite losing reigning SEC Player of the year Victoria Dunlap due to a concussion suffered in Friday’s game.  The 9th ranked Hoops squad is now 5-0 on the season and is off until Sunday when they travel to Louisville.

Was Saturday’s loss to Tennessee Randall Cobb’s last regular season game as a Wildcat?  According to a poll by John Clay, 71% of Wildcat fans think so.  Chip Cosby has a bit more on Randall Cobb evaluating his NFL options.

I know that the entire Bluegrass had their eyes glued to Kentucky’s three games in Hawaii, but so apparently did some NBA scouts.  NBADraft.net  had heir eyes on the pro prospects in Maui and had this to say about Terrence Jones:

"Terrence Jones 6’8, SF, Kentucky — Jones was a man amongst boys in the games for Kentucky. He was absolutely sensational averaging 23 over the 3 games. He threw down one monster dunk to cap off a drive early in the UConn game. The lefty showed his range of versatility playing tough in the post as well as the ability to drive to the rim from outside. Received a chorus of boos every time he touched the ball in the semi final against Washington. His worst performance was his 4-13 shooting game against Washington and he still finished with 16 pts and 17 boards. His dominance against Oklahoma showed that he’s already one of the elite players on the college level going for 29 pts, 13 reb, 3 ast, and 4 blks. Comparing him to Harrison Barnes, Jones has a little more “dog in him”, he plays with such aggressiveness and emotion. That emotion that he plays with can also get him into trouble, as when things aren’t going his way (which was seldom in Maui), he can quickly lose his cool and let his temper get the best of him."

In addition to Jones, the NBADraft site also offers breakdowns of Brandon Knight, Doron Lamb, and DeAndre Liggins.
