It’s Tuesday afternoon and Thanksgiving is just under a day and a half away. To get your mind off of the turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, and chitlins (if you live in South Carolina), I thought I would give you an update on some former Kentucky high school stars that chose to go to other BCS schools and let you know what they’ve been up to. I’ve only listed players who chose a BCS conference school, were rated as a three star or higher player by at least one service, or have had a major impact on their current team.
Class of 2010
Antonio Andrews – ATH – Fort Campbell, KY
He originally went out to the air Force academy before having a change of heart and transferring back home to WKU. He was able to play immediately and has rushed for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Hilltoppers.
Harris Bivin – C – Owensboro, KY
He originally committed to Louisville, but had a change of heart and decided to enroll at Murray State instead. He’s seen the field as a true freshman as a center and guard and started the first three games of the year.
Austin Collinsworth – WR – Ft. Thomas, KY
Signed with Notre Dame and has played well enough to avoid a redshirt this season. While he hasn’t seen much time as a receiver on offense, he’s played extensively on special teams and has totaled 6 tackles and has blocked a kick.
Dylan Curry – TE – Frankfort, KY
Signed with Louisville as a greyshirt player. He will enroll in January.
Brandon Dunn – DE – Louisville, KY
Signed with Louisville shortly after switching his commitment from Kentucky. He’s seen action this season as a reserve defensive lineman and has tallied 12 tackles but zero sacks this year.
Channing Fugate – FB – Jackson, KY
Signed with Tennessee and enrolled early to participate in spring practice. The early enrollment paid off and he’s seen some playing time as a true freshman, starting 3 games and playing in all 11. He has one catch for 4 yards this year.
Tate Nichols – TE – Union, KY
Originally committed to Stanford, but changed his mind and ultimately signed with Notre Dame. He’s been moved to offensive tackle and is sitting out this year with a redshirt.
Stephan Robinson – WR – Louisville, KY
Signed with Louisville and is sitting out this season with a redshirt.
Quan Weaver – RB – Frankfort, KY
Originally committed to play at Louisville, but spurned the Cardinals on NSD to play for Kentucky State. He is sitting out this season with a redshirt while recovering from injury.
Class of 2009
Courtney Dalcourt – QB – Franklin
Chose to stay home and play for WKU. He was injured as a freshman and forced to redshirt. He switched to WR this season after suffering another injury that will require him to sit out another season.
Rolandan Finch – RB – Louisville, KY
Signed with Boston College after a great career at St. Xavier in Louisville. Will sit out this season with a redshirt while recovering from injury. He rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown last year as a freshman.
Trevor Foy – OL – Louisville
Signed with Purdue out of high school. Redshirted last year, and is currently listed as the second string right tackle on the depth chart.
Justin Green – RB – Louisville
Signed with Illinois as a prep player. Switched to defensive back this year and has 46 total tackles on the season, but zero interceptions.
Jerrell Greene – RB – Lexington
Committed to UK as a senior at Dunbar, but was arrested and had his scholarship offer pulled. I couldn’t find any information on his current whereabouts. He was a three star recruit.
Corey Robinson – QB – Paducah
He was a lightly recruited prep player that signed with Troy out of high school. He has started every game this season and has amassed 2711 passing yards with 19 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions.
Daniel Vogelsang – TE – Lexington
Signed with Wake Forest as a greyshirt after graduating from Lexington Catholic. He’s been moved to the defensive line and will sit out this season with a redshirt after sustaining a hand injury.
Jordan Whiting – LB – Louisville
Signed with Ohio State. He’s played in 10 games this season, primarily as a special teams player. He’s a reserve linebacker as a redshirt freshman and has 2 total tackles on the season.
Class of 2008
Jared Carpenter – S – Louisville, KY
Signed with Northwestern University and has seen his playing time steadily increase up to this season. He has played defense and special teams for the Wildcats and has 46 total tackles on the season.
John Cole – WR – Somerset, KY
He signed with Vanderbilt out of high school and has been their most productive wide receiver this season. He has 21 catches for 263 yards and a touchdown for the Commodores this year.
Terrell Combs – ATH – Lexington, KY
He originally signed with Minnesota out of high school and flip-flopped from tight end to the defensive line before leaving the program. He transferred to Kentucky last year and will be eligible to play next season as a defensive lineman.
Dexter Heyman – DB – Louisville, KY
He signed with Louisville after playing his prep career across town at Male. He’s been a big contributor on defense for the Cardinals and has racked up 40 tackles this season.
D.L. Moore – WR – Bowling Green, KY
He signed with South Carolina and has played significant minutes in his time in Columbia. This season, he has contributed 12 catches for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Brandon Newman – DT – Louisville, KY
He signed with Notre Dame and has not seen any significant time since he arrived on campus. He’s currently on the roster as a reserve defensive lineman and has only played against Washington State this year in a game that he couldn’t compile any statistics.
Sam Robey – C – Louisville, KY
He signed with Florida and made some waves early in his career during spring practice. He is currently playing as a reserve center for the Gators and should get his first crack at the starting job next year when starter Maurice Pouncey is gone.
Ryan Wallace – TE – Bowling Green, KY
He originally signed with Colorado before electing to transfer back to Kentucky last year. After sitting out last season at UK, he was moved to tackle shortly after spring this year and has been a reserve there.
D.L. Wilhite – ATH – Lexington, KY
He joined former high school teammate Terrell Combs and signed with Minnesota as part of their 2008 class. He’s seen most of his action on the defensive line and has played in all 11 games this year with 8 starts. He has 14 tackles and a sack this season.
If I could pick one player in each class to have gotten at UK, I would take Fugate to be the heir to Moncell Allen at fullback, Jordan Whiting to give the linebacking corps a much needed boost, and D.L. Wilhite to give the defensive line some depth. What do you think? If you could pick one guy from each class, who do you want?
