WBN's SEC Power rankings, Week 8 Edition

facebooktwitterreddit

SEC EAST

South Carolina  3-2  (5-2)

Georgia  3-3  (4-4)

Florida  2-3  (4-3)

Vanderbilt  1-3  (2-5)

Kentucky  1-4  (4-4)

Tennessee  0-4  (2-5)

SEC WEST

Auburn  8-0  (5-0)

Alabama  4-1  (7-1)

LSU  4-1  (7-1)

Mississippi State  2-2  (6-2)

Arkansas  2-2  (5-2)

Mississippi  1-3  (3-4)

1. (1)  Auburn  (8-0)-  No argument here.  Auburn won a tough, grind i out game against LSU.  I think I am going to start lobbying for a Auburn-Oregon National Title game.  Will that set a record for points scored in a title game? Has Cam Newton won the Heisman in week 8?  Who else could compete? UP NEXT:  @ Ole Miss

2.  (2)  Alabama (7-1)- The Crimson Tide dispatched of Tennessee 41-10 this week and will more than likely stay 1A on this list until the Tigers and Tide face off.  Alabama now is jiving up 12 points a game and has held their opponents to 10 points or less in five games this season.  Plus they can score points.  These two are the class of the SEC.  UP NEXT:  Bye week

3.  (4)  South Carolina  (5-2) –  True, the Gamecocks looked uninspired in their 21-7 win at Vanderbilt, but they are on top of the SEC East and should win the division.  Plus they did beat off Alabama.  You can not over look that.  UP NEXT:  Tennessee

4.  (3)  LSU  (7-1) –  You have to hand it to LSU.  They had a good chance at toppling Auburn last night and “held” Auburn to just 24 points and if not for some questionable play calling late by Les Miles, could have pulled off the upset or forced overtime at least.  Somehow, they seem to be a good team despite all the disorder and disarray.  UP NEXT:  bye week

5.  (6)  Arkansas  (5-2) – Ryan Mallette is back and healthy and Arkansas beat Ole Miss by 14 last night.  Arkansas is an intriguing team that can give anyone trouble.  They gave bot Alabama and Arkansas fits and they are the team no one wants to play.  UP NEXT:  vs Vanderbilt

6. (5)  Mississippi State  (6-2) – If there is a team that is doing it with mirrors right now, it is the Bulldogs.  Yes, they are 6-2, but four of those wins are out of conference wins against teams like Alcorn State and Memphis.  Last week, they barely beat a bad UAB team 29-24 at home.  UP NEXT:  Kentucky

7.  (9)  Georgia  (4-4) –  Consider me a believer of the Georgia Bulldogs.  To be honest, with all cylinders clicking, they probably can rival Auburn offensively.  With AJ Green back and Caleb King returning next week, Georgia can make themselves a very serious contender for the SEC East by beating Florida.  The question is which Bulldog team will turn up.  UP NEXT:  Florida @ Jacksonville

8.  (7)  Florida  (4-3) –  Gators had a bye week this week and now have to face a very hungry Georgia team that is scoring points like a pinball machine.  Gators have lost three in a row, Bulldogs have won three in a row.  Something has to give.  UP NEXT:  Georgia @ Jacksonville

9.  (10)  Mississippi  (3-4) – The Rebels continue to under perform, losing by 14 to Arkansas, but they remain a dangerous team with the 20th best rushing attack in the country with Bolden and Massoli.  Its been a tough stretch for the Rebels and it gets no easier.  UP NEXT:  Auburn

10.  (7)  Kentucky (4-4) –  The Cats have lost four of five now and the sad thing, most of the damage has been self inflicted as they have put themselves in big first half holes the last five games.  Beating Tennessee used to be viewed as the topping on the sundae, but now that game may be key to another 7-5 season.  UP NEXT:  @ Mississippi State

11.  (11)  Tennessee  (2-5) – Move along.  Nothing to see here … especially after the Vols lost to the Crimson Tide 41-10.  UP NEXT:  @ South Carolina

12.  (12)  Vanderbilt  (2-5) –  See above.  Vandy lost by 14 to South Carolina.  A bit more respectable than the Vols but still not much to see here.  UP NEXT:  @ Arkansas
