Inside The Numbers: Randall Cobb's Touchdowns
By Corey Price
Amidst all the craziness that was the final minutes of the South Carolina game last Saturday – the comeback, the first victory over Steve Spurrier, defeating a top 10 team – many fans were lost in the moment and didn’t really grasp that history was made on Kentucky’s game-winning touchdown. When Mike Hartline threw a touchdown pass to a wide open Randall Cobb on 4th and 7, it was Randall’s 33rd career touchdown scored at Kentucky. That set a new school record for career touchdowns scored, a record previously held by wide receiver/return specialist Craig Yeast who played from 1995 to 1998. Just to put it into perspective, Craig Yeast scored his 32nd career touchdown in his 43rd game played at Kentucky. Cobb scored his 33rd career touchdown in just his 30th game played at Kentucky. With the record set, I decided to look at all of Randall Cobb’s touchdowns while at Kentucky (I’m including the 5 touchdown passes that Cobb has thrown) and here is what I found:
- First Touchdown Scored: September 6th, 2008 vs. Norfolk State (18 yard run with 3:29 left in the 1st quarter)
- Last Touchdown Scored: October 16th, 2010 vs. #10 South Carolina (24 yard reception with 1:15 left in the 4th quarter)
- Last Rushing Touchdown: October 9th, 2010 vs. #8 Auburn (1 yard run with 4:03 left in the 3rd quarter)
- First Receiving Touchdown: October 18th, 2008 vs. Arkansas (32 yard reception with 4:15 left in the 4th quarter)
- First Passing Touchdown: September 6th, 2008 vs. Norfolk State (14 yard pass with 2:54 left in the 2nd quarter)
- Last Passing Touchdown: October 9th, 2010 vs. #8 Auburn (6 yard pass with 4:52 left in the 2nd quarter)
- First Punt Return Touchdown: October 24th, 2009 vs. Louisiana-Monroe (73 yard punt return with 9:18 left in the 1st quarter)
- Last Punt Return Touchdown: September 11th, 2010 vs. Western Kentucky (50 yard punt return with 12:47 left in the 2nd quarter)
