EAST

South Carolina 2-2 (4-2)

Florida  2-3  (4-3)

Georgia  2-3  (3-4)

Vanderbilt  1-2   (2-4)

Kentucky  1-3  (4-3)

Tennessee  0-3  (2-4)

WEST

Auburn  4-0 (7-0)

LSU  4-0  (7-0)

Alabama  3-1  (6-1)

Mississippi State  2-2  (5-2)

Arkansas  1-2  (4-2)

Mississippi  1-2  (3-3)

1. (3) Auburn (7-0) – Look who is back on top of the power rankings now and I admit, I hate Auburn’s defense. It’s mediocre at best, but who really needs a defense when you have Cameron Newton? He is, without a doubt, a beast, and I love watching him play anyone not named Kentucky. Why worry about a defense when you are averaging 40.7 points a game? UP NEXT: vs LSU

2. (2) Alabama (6-1) – The Crimson Tide dispatched of the Rebels Black Bears in a workman like manner 23-10 last night and they still have a nasty defense.  In some ways, I think they are still the best team in the SEC, so you may ask why I have Auburn ahead of them.  First, the Tide running game has been less than impressive lately and I think that Auburn can pin 40 points on the Tide and outscore them.  UP NEXT:  @ Tennessee

3. (4)  LSU  (7-0) –  You have to hand it to the fighting Les Mile’s.  They are still undefeated thanks to a nasty defense and the luck of the Gods.  Sooner or later, this house of cards has to crumble but we will see if the Tigers can remain standing getting into the meat of their schedule.  One thing, a 16-10 half time lead against McNeese State is hardly impressive.  It gets interesting for LSU starting next week.  UP NEXT:  Auburn.

4.  (1)  South Carolina  (4-2) –  You have to wonder how much the Ole Ball Coach is regretting his decision to go for the win instead of head into overtime versus Kentucky.  Kentucky did expose a few holes in the Gamecocks  game last night.  The main thing is that is you are able to get Lattimore out of the game, this team is very average offensively and Garcia can’t run the show without that ground support.  UP NEXT:  @ Vanderbilt

5.  (6)  Mississippi State (5-2) –  The Bulldogs can win with offense and last night, they proved they can win with defense, hiolding Florida to a mere 7 points.  The win had to be sweet for Dan Mullen to defeat his former team and right now, Mississippi State is becoming that team that no one wants to face in the SEC.  You can knock the Bulldog’s QB play, but this team is winning wih the basics:  a hellacious running game and defense.  UP NEXT:  versus UAB

6.  (5)  Arkansas  (4-2)  –  Despite losing by 22 to Auburn, I can’t drop Arkansas too much this week because they lost their Heisman candidate to injury.  The Hogs have a lot of fight in them and have had a solid defense in all games where they do not face Cameron Newton.  Hopefully Mallett does not miss too many games due to his injury, but Tyler Wilson is going to be a good QB as well.  UP NEXT:  vs Mississippi

7.  (9)  Kentucky (4-3) –  yes, I am moving Kentucky ahead of the mighty Gators because os of now, they are playing better.  Florida is on a three game losing streak, while Kentucky has battled two top teams back to back and ended up tying them in points scored for the two games.  Chris Matthews gives Kentucky a second gamebreaking WR and Mike Hartline has benefitted.  Now, let’s get Derrick Locke back.  UP NEXT:  Georgia

8.  (7)  Florida  (4-3) –  Before I get too much flack from the reptilian backers, let’s look at some numbers.  Florida has the 84th ranked passing attack and 75th rushing attack.  The best team they have beaten this year has been Kentucky, and can I remind you they have now lost three in a row.  It was a good run for the Gators, but this season, they are a very average team.  (Yes, I know they beat Kentucky, but don’t email me  — both teams are 4-3 now).  UP NEXT:  a much needed bye week

9.  (10)  Georgia  (3-4) –  The Bulldogs are a hard team to read right now.  They have been world beaters the last two weeks, winning their last two games 83-14.  Now keep in mind they were playing Tennessee and Vanderbilt.  You can’t argue that AJ Green has been a spark since he has returned and QB Aaron Murray has been very impressive the last couple of weeks.  Are the Bulldogs ready to make some noise?  Or just a lot better than the cellar dwellars?  UP NEXT:  @ Kentucky

10.  (8)  Mississippi (3-3) –  In part I want to punish Ole Miss for settling on such a new lame mascot.  The Black Bears?  But their performance against Alabama was punishment enough.  After a few weeks of an upwards trend, the Rebels (gonna take a while, folks) are dropping down the power rankings.  UP NEXT:  @ Arkansas

11.  (11)  Tennessee (2-4)  A bye week keeps the Vols status quo this week.  That 41-14 loss to Georgia leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, but we are about to see the real definition of ugly loss this week.  UP NEXT:  Alabama

12.  (12)  Vanderbilt  (2-4)  The Commodores lost 43-0 to Georgia this week.  Enough said.  UP NEXT:  South Carolina
