WBN's SEC Football Power Rankings: Week 6 edition

facebooktwitterreddit

SEC EAST

South Carolina 2-1 (4-1)

Florida  2-2  (4-2)

Vanderbilt  1-1 (2-3)

Georgia  1-3  (2-4)

Kentucky  0-3 (3-3)

Tennessee  0-3 (2-4)

WEST

LSU  4-0  (6-0)

Auburn  3-0 (6-0)

Alabama  2-1 (5-1)

Arkansas  1-1 (4-1)

Mississippi  1-1 (3-2)

Mississippi State  1-2  (4-2)

1.  (5)  South Carolina (5-1) –  They did what I thought no other team would do this year.  They beat Alabama and beat them by 14 points.  Finally the Ole Ball Coach has the Gamecocks on top of the SEC and ready for a trip to Lexington.  UP NEXT:  @ Kentucky

2.  (1)  Alabama (5-1) – Yes, they lost, but I still think they will be in the SEC Championship game.  The Tide are not invincible.  But they are still a very good, very dangerous football team.  UP NEXT:  Ole
Miss

3.  (2)  Auburn  (6-0) – No, it’s not bitter grapes that I dropped Auburn a spot this week.  I simply don’t think they are better than Alabama.  Cameron Newton is a bonafide Heisman candidate but the Tigers lack killer instinct and their offense is carrying their defense at this point.  UP NEXT:  Arkansas

4.  (4)  LSU  (6-0) –  It’s time to nominate the Tigers for the Rodney Dangerfield reward as they have no respect for a 6-0 team.  They looked less than impressive in defeating Florida last night, but I don’t know how long I can keep the Tigers down.  They have cleared the first half of the season with a perfect slate.  UP NEXT:  McNeese State

5.  (3)  Arkansas (4-1) – It’s been a roller coaster ride in the WBN power rankings for the Razorbacks as I can not decide if they are really good or just good.  Last night’s 24-17 win over an average Texas A&M club was less than impressive, but the Hogs can impress me next week in what should be a shootout.  UP NEXT:  @ Auburn

6.  (7)  Mississippi State (4-2) –  Yes, the Bulldogs have dusted off Georgia and two straight cupcakes, but their offense has found itself scoring 96 points in the last two games.  Dan Mullen gets to face his former team this week and if anyone wants to quibble about my placing the Bulldogs over the Gators, well this will be settled on the field next week.  UP NEXT:  @ Florida

7.  (6)  Florida  (4-2) –  Everyone enjoying getting their shots in on UF this year?  I actually was inclined to leave UF at number 6, but have to move them down after two straight losses and a defense that has given up 64 points in the last two games.  UP NEXT:  Mississippi State

8.  (8)  Mississippi  (3-2) – The Rebels got a bye week last week so it was a status quo week.  No way I move them above the Gators and no one played well enough to jump them.  UP NEXT:  @ Alabama

9.  (9)  Kentucky  (3-3) –  One thing you can say is that this Kentucky team shows tons of heart and does not give up.  Chalk up yet another heartbreaking loss for the Wildcats but there is no way I am going to drop them after a narrow loss to the #8 team in the country.  UP NEXT:  South Carolina

10.  (11)  Georgia  (2-4) –  AJ Green has given the Bulldogs a boost and Aaron Murray looked like a worldbeater yesterday versus Tennessee and they laid a 41-14 hurting on the Vols.  Are the Bulldogs ready to start ascending the WBN Power Rankings Poll?  Well, they did beat Tennessee, keep in mind.  UP NEXT:  Vanderbilt

11.  (10)  Tennessee (2-4) –  Wow.  How weird is it to see Tennessee getting manhandled as consistently as they have this season.  Sorry, that 41-14 loss to Georgia was one of the ugliest losses I have seen in quite some while.  It rivaled a couple of UK’s recent visits to the swamp in level of poor play.  UP NEXT:  @ Alabama

12.  (12)  Vanderbilt (2-4) – Sorry Commodores.  Beating an 0-6 Eastern Michigan team 52-6 gets you no respect.  I’m sure it gave your fans plenty to cheer about though.  UP NEXT:  @ Georgia
