NFL Update Week 4: Bills Johnson records a TD in second straight week vs. Jets

facebooktwitterreddit

Stevie Johnson (WR/Buffalo Bills): After Week 4, the Bills dropped to (0-4) in the NFL and are considered by many to be the worst team in the entire league. Johnson had a fairly good day against one of the NFL’s toughest defense going for three receptions for 31 yards and one touchdown. The good sign seems to be that quarterback Ryan Fitzgerald wants to get Johnson the ball early and often—who received a team high seven targets on the day. The bad sign is that Johnson’s production comes later in the game—the third year wide receiver from Kentucky scored his second straight touchdown, but both came when the game was completely out of hand for the hapless Bills. If you’re looking for an emerging fantasy football option at wide receiver in deeper leagues, Johnson could be your man.

Tim Masthay (P/Green Bay Packers): Masthay didn’t have a ton of work to do Sunday against the Lions, but he was his usual self with three punts for 123 yards and an average of 41.3 yards per punt. He did shank a punt that displayed some room for improvement, but overall Masthay did a good job. He booted a 52-yard punt and put one in the Lions 20 for the first time on the season.

Myron Pryor (NT/New England Patriots): Didn’t accumulate any stats.

Corey Peters (DT/Atlanta Falcons): Peters is emerging as one of the Falcons most promising defensive player, racking up two solo tackles during Atlanta’s 16-14 victory over the San Francisco 49er’s. For a second straight week, Peters and the Falcons defense clogged up all the running lanes holding the 49er’s to just 81-yards rushing and San Francisco’s best runner—Frank Gore—to just 73 total yards on 21 carries—a high number for putting just 73-yards on the board. Peters should continue to get a lot of playing time as well as racking up some solid statistics throughout the season.

Wesley Woodyard (LB/Denver Broncos): Didn’t accumulate any stats.

John Conner (FB/New York Jets): Despite the lack of stats for the aforementioned Conner—the Terminator in these realms—he continues to help the Jets rack up rushing yards game in and game out. This week, New York dominated the run game with 273-yards on 49 carries. LaDanian Tomlinson had 19 carries for 133 yards and second year running back Shonn Greene had 117-yards on 19 carries. Expect much of the same from the Jets running game and Conner helping that aspect of the team’s offense move forward all season.

Jacob Tamme (TE/Indianapolis Colts): Didn’t accumulate any stats.

Micah Johnson (LB/Miami Dolphins): While being signed to play on the Miami Dolphins practice squad, it was reported that former Ohio State linebacker Austin Spitler—a seventh-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft—made his debut with the Dolphins during the team’s Monday Night game against the Patriots. Johnson had previously leapfrogged Spitler to become an active player on the Dolphins roster.

Keenan Burton (WR/St. Louis Rams): The Washington Redskins recently took the time to try-out the former Kentucky Wildcats wide receiver this past week. No word yet on whether he’ll be signed or if he’ll continue to look for work elsewhere.

Trevard Lindley (CB/Philadelphia Eagles): Lindley landed on the Eagles inactive list for the second straight week and didn’t play against the Redskins.

Jeremy Jarmon (DE/Washington Redskins): Jarmon was placed on the Redskins inactive list yet again for the second straight week, this time coming against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Garry Williams (OL/Carolina Panthers): No stats available

Alfonso Smith (RB/Arizona Cardinals): Waived by the Arizona Cardinals earlier this month, but it was recently reported that he has been trying out with the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week.
