2010 NFL Week 3 Update: Bills Johnson snags a late game TD, Packers Masthay gets punked by Bears Hester

Stevie Johnson (WR/Buffalo Bills): Week 3 brought a lot of good fortunes for Johnson, but not as much for his team. The Bills wound up losing 38-30 to the Patriots, but it was Johnson who was able to get Buffalo a touchdown late in the game, his first of the season. Johnson was targeted four times by quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and was able to catch three of those balls for 66 yards. The three catches Johnson did have are testament to Johnson’s ability to become a ‘sure-fire’ wide receiver this season. Johnson should get plenty of other opportunities throughout the year.

Tim Masthay (P/Green Bay Packers): Masthay has shown the capability to become one of the better punters in the NFL, despite just entering his rookie season. The Packers did a pretty good of keeping their offense on the field, but Masthay did get in the game with three punts for 150 total yards as well as racking up a tackle on special teams play. The tackle prevented Bears wide receiver Devin Hester from returning one to the house, but he got fooled on another attempt by Hester that put Chicago up 14-10 at the start of the fourth quarter. All in all, Masthay is looking like he’ll have a successful career in the NFL.

Myron Pryor (NT/New England Patriots): Didn’t accumulate any stats.

Corey Peters (DT/Atlanta Falcons): Peters is emerging as a pretty solid option for the Falcons at defensive tackle showcased by his play during Atlanta’s 27-24 win over the Saints. Peters ended up with two solo tackles to go with another assisted one that gave him three on the day. What was even more impressive was the way in which the Falcons defensive line clogged up the running lanes, allowing just 43 rushing yards on the day. Peters has a good hand in that, especially at a slender 6’3” and 295 lbs. Even more promising is the fact that Peters had more of an impact on the game than teammate Peria Jerry who is ahead of Peters on the team’s depth chart.

Wesley Woodyard (LB/Denver Broncos): Didn’t accumulate any stats.

John Conner (FB/New York Jets): Conner continues to play his part in the Jets running game, helping the team rack up 146 total rushing yards. Don’t expect Conner to get any rushing attempts—or very few of them—on the year, but his blocking is obviously a key component of New York’s offensive success on the year. Conner also plays a big part in the Jets special teams game doing an excellent job of lighting up several Miami Dolphins players on kickoff returns during NBC’s Sunday Night game.

Jacob Tamme (TE/Indianapolis Colts): The Colts talented offensive game usually keeps Tamme on the sidelines and Sunday’s game against the Broncos was no different. Both Dallas Clark and rookie Brody Eldridge have control over the two primary tight end positions—Clark for obvious reason, but Eldridge because of his superior blocking skills on the offensive line. Don’t feel too bad for Tamme as the Colts coaching staff feels comfortable that he’ll do an outstanding job with the special teams. Tamme racked up two solo tackles Sunday, testament to his ability to help out in all facets of the game when asked. Expect much of the same throughout the 2010-11 seasons.

Micah Johnson (LB/Miami Dolphins): Signed to Miami Dolphins practice squad.

Keenan Burton (WR/Free Agent): Burton had a workout with the Chicago Bears as recently as two weeks ago.

Trevard Lindley (CB/Philadelphia Eagles): Lindley landed on the Eagles inactive list and won’t be in uniform for the team’s game against the Jaguars this coming Sunday.

Jeremy Jarmon (DE/Washington Redskins): Jarmon was listed as inactive for the Redskins game against St. Louis this past Sunday.

Garry Williams (OL/Carolina Panthers): No stats available

Alfonso Smith (RB/Free Agent): Waived by the Arizona Cardinals earlier this month.
