Wildcat Blue Nation  SEC Power Rankings – Week 4 Edition

1.  (1)  Alabama (4-0) –  As if there would be anyone else.  Yes, the Tide won at Arkansas on pure luck and the inability of Ryan Mallett to throw a pass away out of bounds, but that is the sign of a great team  Alabama came back from 13 points down and even though it was bleak, capitalized on the other teams mistakes to snatch victory from defeat.  Plus Richardson and Ingram are just brutal.  UP NEXT:  Florida

2.  (4)  LSU  (4-0)  –  Pretty quietly, the Bayou Tigers have put together two wins over ranked opponents and spanked two lower tier SEC rivals.  It’s akll business as usual for Les Mile’s crew who still does not have a passing attack to speak of.  Regardless, this is a nasty efense and a very opportunistic team and as always, find a way to win.  UP NEXT:  Tennessee

3.  (5)  Auburn  (4-0) – Slowly but surely, the Tigers are starting to vindicate the hiring of Gene Chizik and make believers of people.  Cam Newton is a one man wrecking crew as evidenced by his five TD’s versus South Carolina.    It’s easy to label the Tigers a one man team but keep in mind the Tiger as a team racked up 334 yards on the ground versus the Gamecocks.  Half of those were by Newton, but you can’ argue with a 4-0 start.  UP NEXT : Louisiana-Monroe

4.  (6)  Florida (4-0) –  A new star was born for the Gators last night as freshman QB/WR Trey Burton erupted for six TD’s versus my beloved Wildcats.  Florida played it’s first complete game of the season and for the most part, looked   pretty damn impressive.  That said, Trey Burton is no longer a secret weapon or an unknown quantity.  Could they have pcked the wrong game to unleash their beast?  Now everyone knows…  UP NEXT:  @ Alabama

5.  (2)  Arkansas (3-1) –  To be honest, I did not want to drop Arkansas down this far.  had Ryan Mallett not lost his head in the final minutes of the game, the Hogs would be sitting a top this list.  I am still concerned about the lack of a running game for the Hogs.  They could have run the clock out or at least done serious damage to it, but it appears they have no confidence in their own running game.  Teams that rely solely on the pass usually fall hard.  Watch this team.  UP NEXT:  vs Texas A&M

6.  (3)  South Carolina (3-1)   –   Marcus Lattimore and the South Carolina ground attack ground to a halt last night against the Tigers and the defense collapsed in the fourth quarter.  Result:  the ‘Cocks taste defeat for the first time.Look for more and more SEC defenses to key on Lattimore and force Stephen Garcia to beat them by himself.  UP NEXT:  Bye week

7.  (9)  Mississippi State (2-2) For better or worse, it looks like Dan Mullen has settled on a QB, Chris Relf.  Relf did not set the world on fire passing versus Georgia, but he did lead the Bulldogs in rushing with 21 carries for 97 yards.  The Bulldog defense is starting to show some potential as they held Georgia to just 12 points.   Still don’t know if Mullen has the talent yet to pull off  the offense the way he wants to, but when he gets it, this team can be dangerous.  UP NEXT:  vs Alcorn State

8.  (7)  Kentucky (3-1) –   Kentucky once again fell victim to the Blue and Orange curse and got walloped in Gainesville.  Not too many positives about this game, so yes, the Cats deserved to drop, but after watching the other games, no one was good enough to drop them tto far this week.  UP NEXT:  @ Ole Miss

9.  (12)  Mississippi  (2-2) –  Just by sheer apathy, the Rebels jump three spots in the power rankings by pating Fresno State team.  Nothing reaklly looked that impressive for the Rebels except for RB Brandon Bolden, who racked up 228 yards rushing.  Nothing else was that impressive but this happened the best the best of a bad SEC bottom feeders lot this week.  UP NEXT:  Kentucky

10.  (8)  Georgia  (1-3) – Make no mistake, the Bulldogs effort vs Mississippi State was rancid, but as a team, the Bulldogs have the most talent of any of the botom feeders here.  Eventually, Georgia will right this ship, I believe.  They had better for Mark Richt’s sake.  UP NEXT:  @ Colorado

11.  (10)  Tennessee (2-2) – Speaking of rancid, we now have to bring up the Vol’s performance against a bad UAB team this week.  If not for a 0-5 FG kicker and some horrid late game playcalling by UAB, this team would be in even worst shape.  UP NEXT: @ LSU

12.  (11)  Vanderbilt (1-2) – Yea, it sucks to have a bye week and drop in the rankings, but I will gladly move the “Dores up if they beat another SEC team this year.  UP NEXT:  @Connecticut
