Featured Game: September 21st, 2002 Kentucky – 44 Middle Tennessee State – 22
Kentucky entered their first ever meeting against Middle Tennessee State with a lot of momentum, starting the 2002 season 3-0, their best start to a season since 1998. The Wildcats used that momentum to their advantage in the 1st quarter, scoring the game’s first 17 points. But, when Dwone Hicks scored on a 16 yard touchdown run early in the 3rd quarter, the Blue Raiders cut the Wildcats lead to 24-22. But Kentucky responded, scoring the game’s final 20 points, capped off by 2 big plays. Jared Lorenzen hooked up with wide receiver Aaron Boone for a 72 yard touchdown pass and running back Artose Pinner had the last touchdown of the game with a 54 yard run into the endzone. Kentucky piled up 510 total yards of offense, including 305 passing yards for Jared Lorenzen, 163 rushing yards for Artose Pinner, and 111 receiving yards for Aaron Boone. It was Kentucky’s first 4-0 start to a season since 1984.
