Mississippi State 0-2 (1-2)
1. (1) Alabama (3-0) – watch out, Mark Ingram is back and the Crimson Tide offense is clicking on all cylinders as they rolled up 626 yards in a 62-13 romp at Duke. Yes, the Dookies managed a touchdown, which makes one in three games that Alabama has given up. At this point, I don’t think any other football team can stay withing single digits of Alabama. We will see how good Bama really is as the next three weeks provide some decent tests. UP NEXT: @ Arkansas
2. (3) Arkansas (3-0) – Ryan Mallett is a superstar and he showed it against the Bulldogs this week. 380 yards passing and 3 TD’s at Georgia show he is the real deal but if you saw the game winning drive, you know this Arkansas team has the ability to be something special. The defense disappeared in the fourth quarter, but regardless, a win a Georgia is enough to propel the Hogs up a slot. UP NEXT: Alabama
3. (2) South Carolina (3-0) – Sorry Gamecocks, but I am not impressed with your much-closer-than-the-score-indicates 38-19 win over Furman of the FCS. So that drops you a spot in this weeks rankings. I know you will get over it. I still really want to see Stephen Garcia get tested, but Lattimore and Jeffery are proving to be the real deal. The normally tough Gamecock D did not give an imporessive effort either, against the lowel level team. UP NEXT: @ AUBURN
4, (4) LSU (3-0) – Another week, another impressive win over a lower tier SEC team (29-7 over Mississippi State) and I was thiiis close to moving the Tigers up a spo in the power rankings but the Tigers can earn it next week,. The defense has been ansty, allowing just 10 points the last two games. The Tigers have a good running play, but the QB play has been atrocious. UP NEXT: West Virginia
5. (6) Auburn (3-0) – Moving the Tigers up after their exciting win over Clemson last night and because I love watching Cameron Newton. Not only has he been an effective passer, he is leading the team in rushing. However, you have to wonder how long Newton can carry the Tigers. With two straight 3 point wins, they have to step it up. But for now, they are finding a way to win and that is the sign of a good team. UP NEXT: South Carolina
6. (5) Florida (3-0) – I know the Gators are undefeated, but was not that impressed with another closer than it looked win against the Tennessee Vols, who were blown out by similarly ranked Oregon last week. Brantley is showing signs of coming around and the defense is always nasty. Still there is a feeling ov vulnerability around this team. UP NEXT: Kentucky
7. (7) Kentucky (3-0) – Kentucky has made their season the last few years by feasting on a weak out of conference schedule and this year was no different. The offense is the best it has looked in three seasons and Mike Hartline has looked very Woodson like. Derrick Locke and Randall Cobb are among the best playmakers in the league. This team can put up points, but can the defense shut down the elite teams in the SEC? UP NEXT: @ Florida
8. (9) Georgia (1-2) – Despite their secondary getting carved to pieces by Ryan Mallet, the Bulldogs were tied in their game with Arkansas until the last few minutes. Georgia showed some heart by fighting back from a 14 point deficit to tie the game and you get the feeling that Aaron Murray is going to gradually improve as the season progresses. Despite their showing this week, the defense is still good enough to keep Georgia in most games. UP NEXT: @ Mississippi State
9. (8) Mississippi State (1-2) – Dan Mullen’s two headed QB experiment looked horrendous versus LSU, throwing 5 Interceptions and completing just 10 passes. The running game was equally inept rushing 44 times for just 152 yards. The Bullgod have seen their scoring plummet from 49 points to 14 to 7 and you get the feeling Dan Mullen has to make some moves to shake this team up. UP NEXT: Georgia
10. (10) Tennessee (1-2) – The Vols played better this week and actually showed some heart but fell short to the Gators by 14. As I have said, there are no moral victories in the SEC. Matt Simms is a work in progress and the running game has been non existent. The defense is pourous and missed several chances to make an impact in the Florida game. UP NEXT: vs UAB
11. (12) Vanderbilt (1-2) – Congrats to Vandy coach Robbie Coldwell as he got his first win and it was a SEC win at that, on the road at Ole Miss 28-14. Vandy ran roughshod over the Rebels with 227 yards rushing and as we mentioned last week, they have an offense that is solid enough to keep some games respectable. Vandy will always be offensively challenged, but at least they have a ground game which is essential min the SEC. UP NEXT: @ Connecticut
12. (11) Mississippi (1-2) – Is it too early to call this a “season on the brink” for Houston Nutt and the Rebels? The Rebs had a schedule that would get them to 3-0 but they have about hit rock bottom after a 28-14 loss to Vanderbilt at home. Masoli looked horrible, throwing two picks versus Vandy and the defense was outclassed by the Dores. And this was the easy part of the Rebels season. UP NEXT: @ Fresno State
