Kentucky and Indiana squared off in their border battle in a Commonwealth Stadium night game in 2000. The year before though both schools agreed to retire the Bourbon Barrel. Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the 1st quarter. Then they found their rhythm in the 2nd quarter when they combined to score 33 points in the quarter, Indiana scoring 19 of them. Indiana led 26-21 headed into halftime. Kentucky came out firing in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Indiana 10-0 in the quarter and leading 31-26 headed into the final quarter. Indiana took the lead with 12:36 left in the game when Antwaan Randle El threw a 20 yard touchdown pass to tight end Bobby Brandt. Kentucky responded by tying the game at 34 with 4:30 left in the game with a 24-yard field goal by Seth Hanson. Then, with the Hoosiers facing a 3rd and 9, Randle El was sacked and stripped of the ball. Kentucky’s Matt Layow picked up the fumble and rumbled 21 yards to the endzone for the game-winning score as the Wildcats won 41-34.
