Featured Game: September 14th, 2002 Kentucky – 27 Indiana – 17
Kentucky had started the 2002 season 2-0 heading into their border rival game with Indiana. And the Wildcats picked up right where they left off from their first 2 games, scoring the game’s first 14 points, all in the 1st quarter. But the Hoosiers responded by scoring the game’s next 17 points, capped off when safety Joe Gonzalez intercepted Jared Lorenzen’s pass and ran it back 36 yards for a touchdown. Indiana led 17-14 heading into the 4th quarter. Kentucky retook the lead when Lorenzen hooked up with tight end Chase Harp on a 6 yard touchdown pass. Then, with Indiana driving down the field late in the game trying to take the lead, Gibran Hamdan’s pass was intercepted by safety Quentus Cumby at the 18 yard line and he raced 82 yards all the way to the endzone. That gave Kentucky a 27-17 lead with 2:46 left in the game and that sealed the victory for the Wildcats over the Hoosiers. Running back Artose Pinner was the star of the Kentucky offense that night, running for 141 yards and catching 10 passes for 92 yards.
