Kentucky Basketball: It's not for every top 10 player

The New Cats:  Not all the come are chosen

I know that the critics of John Calipari like to point at his Memphis years and point at what they would call “questionable” recruits.  And when Calipari came to Kentucky, his detractors wrung their hands and publicly worried that Kentucky would recruit the wrong type of players and turn overnight into another version of “Thug U” like the Miami Hurricanes of the 1980, or the Tennessee Volunteers, or Urban Meyer’s Florida Gators.

What?  Did I say that?  Deal with it.

Tebow’s not the face of the program anymore and the Gators are camo fatigues from overcoming the Hurricanes in notoriety.  But I digress.  My point was not to bury the Gators but to praise John Calipari.

In his short time at Kentucky, he has displayed the Midas Touch in finding the right kind of recruit to represent the Blue and White.  We were warned that DeMarcus Cousins was a uncoachable troll and that John Wall would put us on probation.  Neither happened and in the course of that recruiting season, Calipari kept top talents like Lance Stephenson away from LExington while Boogie and Wall found their way into the most skeptical of Blue-blood’s hearts.

And Calipari is picky with what five star recruits he brings on to his team.  Unlike most coaches who seem to be at the whim to take a five star … any five star, it appears that Calipari has an iron fist on his program and is doing it his way:

"Things have gone so well that Calipari has told friends he has turned down requests from top 10 players to come to UK’s Big Blue Madness. He also reportedly told highly-regarded recruit DeAndre Daniels he needed to sign with UK now because if he went to a prep school as it appears he will, Kentucky would not have a spot for him in the 2012 recruiting class"

One of the top players that it appears will not find his way to Lexington is Quincy Miller.  From all indications, the long courtship of Quincy Miller is over and some reports say it is possible he will commit to Louisville as early as this weekend.  You could see the writing on the wall with the commitments of PF’s Anthony Davis and Kyle Wiltjer, but there seems to be a whole different story.

And if these rumblings are true, you have to wonder why the national media is not picking up on this or if they will bring it to light if and when Miller does commit to Louisville.  It seems that Miller has a good relationship with Louisville assistant coach/former shoe agent Tim Fuller and that Fuller has a good relationship with Brian Clifton, John Wall’s former AAU coach that did his best to steer Wall away from UK.

Not making any allegations but just saying something smells fishy.  Louisville fans know the allegations because they are the same ones they have lobbied against Calipari for the past year and a half and now they appear to be playing a game of “:if you can’t beat them, do what you have been accusing them of doing for years”

It’s Louisville hate week.  Just sayin.
