Another day, another baseless John Calipari attack.
This one is almost too ludicrous to even be mentioned, yet I would be amiss in my duties if I did not. The latest “John Calipari is a cheater and evil incarnate” story comes to us from the great midwest where a Indiana blogger, historically known for his anti Calipari tangents, unleashed his beast with a story on how Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, and Tennessee were currently being investigated by the NCAA for their involvement in the Josh Selby recruitment. Of course, we are supposed to take this report as credible because the writer was informed of this by the nefarious “person close to the investigation”.
Even on the surface, this story is too ludicrous to even imagine. The three winningest programs of all time (along with a team does not merit inclusion into that list) all under investigation for the recruitment of a player. Wow, and what a break for this earth shattering story to just fall into the lap of a random blogger whose main source of hits is anti Calipari stories. It’s as if Luis Garavito, Pedro Lopez, Harold Shipman, and Countess Elizabeth Bathory all were implicated for murder and the night desk clerk at the Santa Claus, IN Gazette was the one who broke the story.
As we say with all things anti Calipari, you have to consider the source. And this source is a known Calipari basher who was banned from the Kentucky site A Sea of Blue for unethical behavior. Basically, he likes to write anti Calipari articles, and then create fake usernames and go onto Kentucky message boards and say “Wow, can you believe so and so is saying this” and then create a link to his post. He’s been called a sock puppet, but another name is a hits-whore of the worst kind. I guess you can’t blame him for trying to create some buzz for himself.
He has to, I guess since he has been a “happily employed free agent” since January when he was fired from his job as program director of WIBC and 1070 “the Fan” in Indianapolis. Since then, he writes hack articles for a variety of sources, muckraking where he can, and doing whatever is possible for the almighty hit. He says so himself on his blog that his goal is to “agitate effectively enough to get some people to come to a site and read for two-minutes a day.”
And in case you wonder who he plans to agitate, it’s the Big Blue Nation. He laid out his motives in the same article he wrote about being fired from his job:
"Change came with a vengeance, and finally swept me out too.And it will sweep John Calipari from his perch of iniquity in Lexington. May he land with grace and may Kentucky be allowed by the NCAA to keep their wins and banners."
So you see, today’s allegations on Kentucky come not from the NCAA, but with a needy hack with a hard on for all things John Calipari. It’s not pretty. This is the same tool that guaranteed Indiana would beat Kentucky back in December, so he’s needy. Desperate. And obviously tired of being happily unemployed.
So he fires off a missile directed squarely at Kentucky for the sole purpose of getting the bluebloods to come to his site and give him webhits, which he can use to try to get advertisers with, Don’t fall for it, BBN. It’s time we stopped giving these hit happy hacks the attention they so richly desire.
We need to stop linking to them. And going to their site and reading their articles. Don’t give them the webhits they so richly desire. At least until they can show a smidgen of credibility and name some actual sources instead of the dreaded “persons close to the investigation”. Make them earn the hits. All of the Big Blue blog sites need to stand up and send out a big “nyet” on reporting this crap. Let them know they can not count on the couple of hundred thousand hits that undoubtedly come their way.
So don’t count on me to link to the article or even whisper the authors name. You can find it yourself somewhere if you want to waste a few minutes reading utter crap and allowing your blood pressure to rise significantly.
It’s all another variation of learning to “Embrace the Hate” and fortunately this guy is not even worth your time. Maybe someday they will get the idea and just give up on their sensationalist hack pieces … but not as long as we keep clicking.
