No news on the De;Andre Daniels front appears to be good news at least as far as the Kentucky Wildcats are concerned. De’Andre spent Saturday visiting USC and Sunday on the UCLA campus. Although no date has been set for other visits, Kentucky and his former school Texas are also still in the options.
Adam Zagoria had some quotes on Daniels that had to come as music to the ears of the BBN. Zagoria talked to Daniel’s HS coach, Derrick Taylor, who compared Daniels to a young Scottie Pippen:
"“I think he has a chance be an impact player. He’s improving as fast as anybody I’ve ever seen. Year to year he’s making gigantic leaps. He still has much more to go because he has a thin, young body. He shoots it well. He’s very skilled. He can handle, he can pass it. He’s a big, big rebounder. He rebounds very well. He’s a shot-blocker because he’s so long.”“I call him a poor man’s Scottie Pippen-type. He’s long and rangy on the wing and he’ll defend it. He’s a willing defender.”"
No timetable has been made on Daniels decision, but you would think it would be soon as he is losing time getting adjusted to his new team and surroundings as each day goes by.
Meanwhile, one of the top football prospects in the state of Kentucky HAS decided and will be making his decision at 11:30 AM Wednesday. Lexington Christian Academy’s Zach West is rated as a four star prospect by ESPN and as the 17th best OT in the 2011 class. He currently has a final three of Kentucky, Cincinnati, and Penn State.
If the Wildcats can land West, he will be part of a very impressive OT class in 2011 that includes Darrian Miller and Nick Martin. Our own football guru Kyle had the opportunity to sit down with Zach in February and that interview can be found here. Here is what ESPN has to say about Zach West:
"West shows the explosion and playing strength to dominate as a run blocker. Has the size and athleticism for the offensive tackle position at the major level of competition. From a two and three point stance he displays good flexibility, balance and agility; Comes off the ball with good initial fit and pad level; demonstrates the explosion, base and leg drive to knock opponents off the line of scrimmage. Displays the quickness to reach and set the edge against shaded defenders; has the ability to get a hat on linebackers with crushing results; shows good quickness and balance as a trap blocker; runs well with the ability to turn up field with explosion at the point of attack. We see an athlete who plays on his feet in space. This prospect has the physical and athletic skills necessary to handle all the run blocks at the next level of play. His nimble feet, long arms and quick hands will be an asset in pass protection; can quick set, bend and slide however there is the tendency to play too high at times. Displays good upper body playing strength however all areas of hand use will need refinement. We see an aggressive strong finisher with the nasty attitude that puts many defenders on their backs. West may not be an immediate starter when he walks on campus as it may take some time to polish his pass pro techniques however if a red shirt year is not deemed necessary he could see early playing time"
